Radiator cooling fan control wiring question jamyers 01-02-2008, 03:17 PM
I've got a couple of Volvo radiator cooling fans(apparently from '01-'03 Volvo S60), one of which is mounted in an old Buick in front of a 455. It works great and moves an amazing amount of air, but it's wired direct from a relay to the fan motor, and only runs on high (and draws a ton of current when running) My extra fans all have a metal box mounted on the shroud, and the wiring goes through it to the fan motor. From what I've gathered searching online, there is some sort of 2-speed control that may be possible. Here's a pic of what I've got - Anybody know how I can get some control of the fan speed? http://image.swedishpartsshop.com/live/G5000227685OES.JPG jamyers 01-03-2008, 07:24 PM Anybody? Beuhler? ... Beuhler? jkrosse 02-25-2008, 04:19 PM Take a look at: http://www.dccontrol.com/0820.htm This might provide you with a solution. My source suggested you talk to Brian Baskin at DCC. jeff Mr.Volvo 03-23-2008, 01:49 PM Anybody? Beuhler? ... Beuhler? That little box is a Pulse Width Modulated signal from the ECM, it actually has 4 speeds, 25%, 50 % 75 % and 100% Your best bet is remove that box, and wire the fan to a temp control devise. jamyers 03-24-2008, 09:02 AM That's what I was afraid of... I tried contacting the guys at DCC, never got a response. I'm looking into other controllers. Thanks for the info! Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
