Grand Am Starting Problem-Securty system

I've seen several postings regarding starting issues with Grand Am's indicating a security switch problem. The advice is to turn on the ignition and let it set for 10 minutes to reset the security system which is preventing starting the vehicle. What if you don't have the security system but the security light is on.. . . .tried the 10 minute trick and it didn't work.

Is there another issue and trick for cars without the security system? We have a 2003 4 cyl. with an automatic transmission. About 110,000 miles.

when trying to start car, the headlights do not come on but everything else works (radio, fuel pump etc.) we have checked the battery connections.

Any suggestions would be appriciated.

Welcome to AF.

It would help to post your year, engine size , transmission and aprox mileage.
Other wise, we're just wasting time.

He edited the post with all of that info.

Wanted to post for xero incase you weren't looking at this thread anymore because it said you were the last one who posted.

Yeah I see that, I jsut been busy and AF was crappin out all day...

If the battery connections are clean and tight then test the voltage. Should be about 12.5-13.5 volts with the engine off.

Sounds more like a power issue, not a passlock.

BTW your 2003 does certainly have a passlock system.
Id also check the fuses and relays for the ignition system.

Then the usual stuff, check for spark and check for fuel pressure.

Good Luck
