Need help!!!

My service engine light comes on when I start the car and It goes into a high rev. When I start to drive the Rpm goes back to normal and the service engine light goes out. The car runs smooth after that, except it is hard on gas.

Yesterday the car would not start until I pressed the gas. Changed the Pcv valve and car started no problem this morning however service engine light kept coming on and going out. Still went into high rev while warming up until I started to drive

I have changed the air filter, have new spark plugs. recent oil change, and topped all fluids.

Battery charge is good, Alternator good

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

In other words, retrieve the error codes and we might be able to give you a hint about the problem. All you need is a short jumper wire or paper clip, and the ignition key.

Thanks for the response, the code was 33

I changed the map sensor, pcv valve and fuel filter since. The code is now reading 12 but the car is chugging. I was thinking injectors need a cleaning.

any advice would be greatly appreciated :banghead:

i have found high rev's at idle is usually a bad vacuum line. use a vacuum gauge and check all lines . this will also cause lower gas mileage. idle air bypass maybe bad or dirty. vacuum check first.....check manifold vacuum should be 19- 22in.........

I had my 92 do this after i replaced the engine. It ended up being the EGR valve.
