1993 Nissan Sentra 67k - Should I buy?CivicGen4 02-09-2003, 04:16 PM Hi, I found a 1993 Nissan Sentra XE with 67,000 miles on it. I would like to know if there are any known problems with these types of cars. I could be getting the car for about 2500. Is this a good deal? Or should I wait and keep looking for a car? What exactly can you do to a car like this? Brian Rebel_Vixen 02-10-2003, 12:52 AM I don't know if this helps, but i just bought 95 GXE for 2k but has a lot more miles than the 93 you mentioned. As for what you can do with the car, ill leave that up to the others ;) bombadill 02-10-2003, 01:22 AM dude I dont know much about models other than se-r's but nissans seem to have a general defect with fifth gear. One day your goin along at about 70mph and the next thing you know it pops out of fifth gear. It might not do it much at first but give it time and eventually it wont even stay in fifth for five minutes. But like I said i'm not sure about the car your lookin into. Do yourself a favor, as with buying all used cars, and get it checked out by a mechanic. Have them check out the fifth gear synchro, input, and pretty much everything else touching fifth gear. CivicGen4 02-10-2003, 06:52 AM well, Acually it is an Automatic. But, thanks for the input. Do you know if these cars run to high miles...like hondas do? Brian jer28usa 02-10-2003, 04:34 PM I can tell you my experience and remember that this may not be typical of nissan's. I bought a 98 sentra gxe with 40K miles on it. I hate it. My girlfriend has had a 96 civic and if I could do it over I would DEFINATLY go with the civic. I have driven each car for more than 20K miles on each of them so I have a good feel for each. Here are the cons of the sentra. Cable clutch (sucks) it is not even as close to being as smooth as the hydralic on the civic. The 2nd gear grinds (it may not apply to your gen). Alignment is always out. Brakes are pretty weak, even with factory parts. I think the civic feels better on the highway, it seems to me smoother and quieter. Also I have put twice the amount of money for maintainence in my sentra as she has on her civic and her mileage is almost 2 times mine. So you can draw your own conclusions from my experiences. Again you are buying a different gen (I think). Good luck with whatever you buy! bombadill 02-10-2003, 04:34 PM sorry didnt know it was auto., But nissans seem to last a really long time. my se-r has 193,000 on it, and I've seen some with over 300,000. Nissan makes cars that last but they neglect to fix problems that reoccur in each generation of that car. Still I would highly recomend a nissan for anyone. bombadill 02-10-2003, 04:40 PM Originally posted by jer28usa Cable clutch (sucks) it is not even as close to being as smooth as the hydralic on the civic. He's right about that. It's also one of those things that wears out fast. blueturtle 03-30-2003, 06:10 AM really? my cable clutch on my 90 civic has never been replaced over 13 years old now and still works great....
