Transmitter Programming
If you lose a transmitter, program the old and new transmitter(s) into the remote control door lock receiver's memory. Up to 4 transmitters may be programmed.

Important
Once the remote control door lock receiver enters the programming/diagnostic mode, the programming of the first transmitter erases all previous transmitter programming information, requiring the programming of all transmitters.

Program only 1 vehicle remote control door lock receiver at a time. If more than 1 receiver is being programmed at the same time, it is possible that the same transmitter could be programmed to more than 1 remote control door lock receiver.

Perform the following steps in order to program the transmitter:

Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse from the fuse panel. Refer to Fuse Block in Wiring Systems.
Close all of the doors.
Close the liftgate.
Turn the ignition lock cylinder to ACC.
Turn the ignition lock cylinder to OFF, and then back to ACC within 1 second.
Open and close any vehicle door. A chime will be heard when the system enters the BCM programming/diagnostic mode.

Important
After 7 seconds, a chime may be heard confirming successful synchronization. It is necessary to wait approximately 14 seconds for a second chime that will confirm successful programming.

Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 14 seconds.
Repeat the previous step on each additional transmitter to be programmed.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Install the BCM PRGRM fuse back into the fuse panel. Refer to Fuse Block in Wiring Systems.

A little confused on the procedure below.

"After 7 seconds, a chime may be heard confirming successful synchronization. It is necessary to wait approximately 14 seconds for a second chime that will confirm successful programming."

When do i press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remotes? Do i wait after the 2nd chime or right after the 1st chime? doesnt make sense.
:(

After the chime sounds when you close the door that is when you hold the button for 14 seconds. It is just telling you that you may hear the synch chime at 7 seconds while holding the buttons. Do not let go here. Just wait until the second chime approx 14 seconds.

Yeah seems like keyless entry questions make up most of the active content on the GM Forums. Oh well we are happy to have them, and happier to be able to help.

Yes, thanks for helping them out John. I wish i could but i don't have that much experience with keyless entrys at all. If I ever need a price on a GM Part of have this keyless entry frustration...You'll be the first I get a hold of.

Thanks John, much clearer now. Seems that GM makes the programming of keyless entry top secret. I bought this van 2 weeks ago and the dealer didnt have the remotes until this past week. When i brought the van so they could program the remotes they took off in the van to the end of the garage to program them. Its like they do want anyone to know how they do this. Then the dipsh!t tried programming my Blazer remote. He said i cant program this one cause its for a truck/blazer/jimmy vehicle. No kidding! So when i got home i had to reprogram the Blazer remotes which is easy to do. Anyway thanks again!

It should work if the remotes work.

Here is an excert from the manual.

Power Sliding Door
If the vehicle is equipped with a power sliding door (E58), the transmitter will have a power sliding door button. Press the power sliding door button in order to open the power sliding door. To close the power sliding door, press the power sliding door button again.

If the sliding door is locked, perform the following steps:

Unlock all of the vehicle doors.
Refer to Driver Door and All Door Unlock.
Press the power sliding door button in order to open the power sliding door.
Press the power sliding door button again in order to close the power sliding door.

You can operate the power sliding door with the transmitter only when the power sliding door override switch on the overhead console is off.

I hope this helps you out.
Welcome to AF

John

I have a 1998 Pontiac Transport. Will the 1999 Montana instructions also work to program my remote? The dealer want $45 to do it!

I tried the instructions above, but did not get into programming mode. How do you get the lock into ACC position w/o the key in the ignition. I tried instructions w/ key in ignitions, no luck. Please help.

I tried the programming in the previously mentioned steps for my 99 Montana.
removed key from ignition,
remove BCM (Power Door Lock) fuse from fuse panel
close all doors (only one was really open, the passenger door)
Insert ignition key into ignition
Turn the ignition lock cylinder to ACC position
Turn key to OFF to ACC w/in 1 sec (I turned it so fast the key nearly melted!)
Open and close any door (I opened the passenger door)
a chime will be heard (didn't hear a chime, everything silent)
wait 7 sec for confirming chime (is this the 2nd chime?); waited 14 + secs, still no chime
pressed LOCK & UNLOCK buttons simultaneously, anyway.

No response.

My car doesn't appear to go into the program mode. Can anyone comment what I may be doing wrong? I'm about to rub my tummy in a CW circular motion, pat my head and rotate my body CCW at the same time to see if that makes a difference!

Any comments would be appreciated! Maybe I should rotate CW...

Did you remove the power door lock fuse or the "BCM PRGRM"?

rico25

In the manual, they are listed as the same. The Manual (p 6-58) has PWR LOCK with usage described as Body Module Control (BCM) and the fuse is labeled PWR LOCK.
Looking at the fuse box (located to the right of the glove box; obstructed by the passenger door) the fuse I removed was the 1st column, 2nd fuse from the bottom.
BTW, you can get a digital user manual (pdf file) from the Pontiac web site, though you have to register w/ them.

Thanks
