Roof rack and hi-liftrrdstarr 10-07-2001, 01:07 AM Do any of you carry your hi-lifts on your roof rack? I just bought a 60" model. If so what brand roof rack is it and how did you attach the jack? I see nothing available for my Surco rack? Pictures too PLEASE! -Rick rhombus 10-07-2001, 08:28 AM CD has a Surco rack and has his High-Lift, Axe and Shovel mounted on it. He got mounts for it from somewhere. I'll try and send him and email to tell him to the info post here. kinetic 10-07-2001, 01:16 PM KargoMaster has the adapter brackets for a High-Lift but, I dont remember how much it cost. Im not sure if it would work with your Surco rack either, but its worth looking at. Craisy Daisy 10-07-2001, 02:50 PM rrdstarr, I used the axe/shovel mount to mount my hi lift to my Surco rack. The Surco part number is AX100. My jack is 48" but I don't see why this wouldn't work for a 60" version. ps - the dials you see on my mounts are not included in the kit from Surco. They include regular bolts. Craisy Daisy 10-07-2001, 02:53 PM More pics... Craisy Daisy 10-07-2001, 02:57 PM More... rrdstarr 10-07-2001, 04:29 PM Perfect! That is just what I will do then! Adapt the shovel mount to work with the hi-lift! Are those locking dials you have on the hi-lift? I can't quite see the detail of them? Xcanuk 10-07-2001, 10:31 PM They are locking knobs from an old Thule Rack I had handing around, rain gutter mount type, nice to see them put to good use. I think Thule still makes them. Maddog 10-09-2001, 04:51 PM CD, Where did you purchase your Surco rack? I found them at a few places, but don't have any Xterra specific racks, only Pathy racks. Thanks. Dog rrdstarr 10-09-2001, 05:20 PM Dog, I got mine at Overlander.com, you'll have to buy the Xterra specific mounts for the rack. With shipping and everything it was less than $220. This is the link below! http://www.overlander.com/pages_misc/contents_fr.tpl?cart=3085482070856998 -Rick Maddog 10-09-2001, 05:26 PM Thanks for the help. I knew the racks that overlander sells were Surco, but I called the a few days ago and the dumbass told me they weren't. Anyways, that looks like the rack I'll go with, probably place my order in the next week or so. One other question. Did you order the spare tire mounting kit with yours or is their an easier (read cheaper) solution to getting my spare up top? Thanks Dog Philosopher 10-10-2001, 11:23 AM Originally posted by Maddog is their an easier (read cheaper) solution to getting my spare up top? Thanks Dog I used tie-down straps when my spare was on the roof. Worked fine. OffroadX 10-10-2001, 01:15 PM There's a 40x50 Surco Safari rack on Ebay starting @ $115, with a $150 buy-it-now option still available. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=596458398 Brent Maddog 10-10-2001, 01:17 PM Thanks for the heads up Brent, I'll give it a look. Dog rrdstarr 10-10-2001, 01:22 PM Dog, I went the expensive route and got the spare tire carrier. It should be here in a week or so! I'll post photos as always! Mr. T's solution works too. I just want a lockable solution and my garage is too small to get the Xterra inside! Maddog 10-10-2001, 01:40 PM Thanks for the pics. However, the cost of the tire carrier is not my only reason for not ordering the mounting kit. For me, the spare tire up top will only be temporary. I'm waiting, and have been waiting the past couple weeks for AC to get my 2" body lift kit put together. After installing the body lift, bringing my total lift to around 5", I hope to move on to a rear bumper with tire carrier. Thus, reducing the amount of weight up top. Thanks for the help though guys, I'll probably just go with tie downs for now. Dog rrdstarr 10-18-2001, 03:54 PM Here is the Surco tire holder on a Surco rack. That 74lb Swamper is a bitch to get up there! I'll have to ask Craisy Daisy how he got his hi-lift to fit the ax/shovel holder because mine is not lining up??? :( Have to do some more head scratching on that one? Craisy Daisy 10-19-2001, 09:44 AM Need a hand rrdstarr? More pics? The jack (through my experience) will only line up on the drivers side. The flat base of the jack actually hangs off the back edge of the rack. That way, the jack can sit flush against the side of the rack. rrdstarr 10-19-2001, 02:12 PM Thanks Daisy for getting back to me! I turned the jack end for end and couldn't get the holes for the bolts, along with the two hooks on each rack to line up? I moved the hooks back and forth on the rack and still no success? Did you cut off one of the hooks? I guess I do need more detailed pics if you have time! Thanks again! -Rick Craisy Daisy 10-21-2001, 07:32 PM Sorry I didn't get you a pic yet Rick. This weekend was pretty busy for me. Expect a few pics tomorrow sometime. rrdstarr 10-22-2001, 12:39 AM We had a blast this weekend too! 23 Xterras for PNWX up on the Naches! Perfect weather for the fall! Craisy Daisy 10-22-2001, 05:56 PM rrdstarr 10-22-2001, 08:36 PM So...Daisy...it looks like you have the bar through the upper hooks(kinda dark)? Is that correct? Then clamp just locks it in place. OR does the clamp bolt go through the bar? Thanks again and again! -Rick Craisy Daisy 10-22-2001, 08:41 PM rrdstarr, Yes, the hi-lift itself is mounted to the top most hook on the mount. I had to play with the spacing of course, but it only took a few minutes. Good luck! If you still have some problems, feel free to ask me for some specific pictures that maybe will better illustrate what I've done, so you can mimic it. Matt Peckham 10-25-2001, 11:10 PM I have the Hi Lift Loc Rac, and for the life of me, can't figure out exactly how it's supposed to hold the thing on. Anybody got one and how the jack mounts on it? Edit: Never mind... I had it backwards.... rrdstarr 10-26-2001, 01:11 AM I had one of those Hi-lift locks 15 years ago! It worked okay but wasn't really stable way to secure a hi-lift in a pickup bed! I should have bought those jeep bumper mounts and secured it between the rollbar. I am working all weekend but will post a pic when I get my Hi-Lift straightened out with my Surco shovel/ax mounts! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
