Engine1984BMW 01-23-2003, 03:37 PM I have a 1984 BMW 318i i want to buy a new engine(1.8 isnt enough). but i cant find how much engine room there is. Help me pls lowridder11 01-23-2003, 06:26 PM why doen't you just measure it kaoru-tochiro 01-24-2003, 12:25 PM You could easily fit a 325 6 cylinder engine, up till '91. :smoka: they have more power and torque, :smoka: but they weigh more and you'll upset the balance and handling of the car and you'll need to buy stiffer springs and possibly larger brakes. Don't bother with a V6 or V8 or V12 swap, unless you want to constantly remove the motor from the engine bay just to change spark plugs:smoka: Best option is to buy a 325, or you could just turbo your 318. :smoker2: lowridder11 01-24-2003, 03:11 PM exacltly 1991 318is 01-26-2003, 05:23 AM if you got the cash, www.kormanfastbmw.com is the place for you. they will build ou a motor or sell you a turbo that will give you about 6-8 pounds of boost. if you have a 1.8 L i think it'll take you horsepower from 138(?) to about 180-195hp. this is a cool way to doit because when you use a smalll amout of boost, you don't really have to remodify your iternals on your motor like springs, pistons, etc. bemmertech 05-02-2004, 06:51 PM i was able to install a b30 engine (s50) with some mods. "the hedders and the shift linkage had to be had made, bill was 12G :( bemmertech 05-02-2004, 07:01 PM one more thing a any "M50" will go in like cake and will have fine handling you should have springs and shocks on the car anyway ( if you want a engine www.mike@autohausbayern.com vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
