Flexible Radio Antenna Installrednec 10-06-2001, 12:04 AM I haven't found any info on how to install a flexible radio antenna. I know a few of you have installed these on your trucks and was wondering how it was done. I've had one of these antenna's floating around in the back of my truck for several months and haven't taken the time to install it. rrdstarr 10-06-2001, 12:59 AM Rednec, do you mean radio or CB? I just bought a $4.99 AM/FM antenna at Rat Schak. rednec 10-06-2001, 01:02 AM AM/FM stereo antenna. I'm all set on the CB antenna. I've got about 4 of them. The wife about shit when I put my old 102" fiberglass whip on my X. rrdstarr 10-06-2001, 01:10 AM I'll get a pic of mine to you tomorrow! rednec 10-06-2001, 01:18 AM cool... thanx... I just don't want to break the plastic cowl where it's mounted. Schludwiller 10-06-2001, 01:53 AM Unscrew the stock metal Nissan antenna at the hexagon base. You can probably do this by hand, but a wrench can help. Remove the antenna screw adapters from the replacement antenna kit (should be 3). All three have the same thread pattern on one side, and different thread patterns on the other side for adapting to your vehicles specific thread. Try each adapter thread until you find one that matches. Screw in the correct adapter screw. Take your new flexible antenna and thread it onto the new thread extending from your vehicles antenna base. That's it. I bought mine in canada and had a problem with the threads coming off inside the antenna (the threads weren't long enough). I ended up picking some small o-rings and placed them between the Nissan base and my new antenna. This kept the threads in correct position to hold the antenna. I think it might just be a Canadian thing. I haven't heard any US purchasers having the same problem I did. rrdstarr 10-06-2001, 02:00 AM Schlud my threads on the antenna going into the truck were a little undersized and wobbly too!!! rednec 10-06-2001, 10:32 AM The antenna I got is a complete replacement. I don't think it will screw onto the exhisting base. Then antenna was actually a prize that I recieved from the OBX1 trip earlier this year :) rrdstarr 10-06-2001, 03:33 PM Rednec, here is the antenna I am talking about for $4.99. It has 4 adapters with it. The antenna is so flexible you can touch the tip to the base. Schludwiller 10-06-2001, 03:50 PM Rick, yours looks just like mine. The problem was that in order to turn the antenna down to touch the Nissan base you actually push the antenna past the threads inside it. If yours wobbles then I bet you can also pull straight up and it will come off the adapter threads. Small thick o-rings (I have two on mine) will allow you to tighten the antenna without slack, and still stay on the threads. wqbang 10-08-2001, 12:23 PM Picked mine up at Walmart. It is very similar to the Radio Shack model. Installs in exactly the same way. I haven't had problems with mine. boodie 03-13-2003, 02:01 PM Originally posted by rrdstarr Rednec, here is the antenna I am talking about for $4.99. It has 4 adapters with it. My local Ratshack says they no longer stock auto audio equipment; I can order it from the catalog, but I need a number... ...Thankyouverymuch!... :D xterra2k 03-14-2003, 08:48 AM How is the reception with the flexible antenna? It is also interesting but my OEM antenna is always a ¼ turn lose. But never any loser and I haven’t ever removed it. Just keep tighten it. naptowntrux 08-04-2003, 01:36 PM I just bought a flex antenna on Ebay for $14 including shipping. Just search for "Xterra antenna." There's one guy that seems to have an antenna business and sells them for the same price every time. Don't "buy it now," just bid low. It hasn't arrived yet, let me know if you want a picture or how well it installs/how the transaction went. rrdstarr 08-04-2003, 08:47 PM Originally posted by boodie rrdstarr - Do you still have the part # for that Ratshack antenna??? No # just walked into the store and picked it up. Someone said they might not be making them anymore. The reception is the same as stock antenna. boodie 08-10-2003, 11:45 AM Originally posted by rrdstarr Someone said they might not be making them anymore. My local Rat Shack doesn't handle *any* automotive equip anymore. I picked up a couple of the "Schludwiller Specials" antennas from AutoZone... They bend at about 35mph, but I can live with it... It's a "Metra RoadWorks" Universal AW-RM1R Replacement Antenna Rubber Mast (GM/Ford/Chrysler/Japanese Cars). 14 1/4" tall. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
