That's the spesifications for the W12 Coupè, aka the Nardo.
But the car in the picture is the first W12 concept from 1997.

I love this car. I guess you people know Volkswagen owns Lamborghini and I think Lamborghini influence shines through on this car, right down to the jack-knife doors. Any word on if they are putting this car into production?

Well... I guess just before you did... I'm in Wales now, and I'm amazed by the difference in quality of cars. North amercia has horrible cars :P

Well, the yellow car you see in the picture was introduced in 1997.
Audi, and thus Volkswagen, didn't acquire Lamborghini S.p.A. untill 1998.
And no, they are not building it, Bernd Pischetsrieder pulled the plug last summer.

any idea why the plug was pulled it would have given VW a car in every market.

Wow. I had no idea this car was introduced so long ago. I figured the jack-knife doors, rear engine W-12, and beautiful styling were under Lamborghini influence. Well, I am disappointed to hear they are not releasing this car. It would be a big step for Volkswagen.

Isn't audi releasing a supercar? Maybe they don't want the 2 to compete with each other in a small market...

They pulled the plug cos
1) They own Lambo
2) Who'd buy a VW supercar when people are having difficulty getting their head around shelling out £30k+ for any VW?

GreatOne01

VW should stick to their market. 1 supercar won't make much difference, and it's like strapping a Ferrari symbol on the front of your golf :P

i dont see the problem with that it would be cool to have a vw in every market dont you think and it would give people that always thot shit on vw somthing to realise they werent right. german engineers = some of the damn best in the world

I don't think there is a 'car guy' in the world that doesn't respect german engineering. :silly:

THe only German i like is RUF or Porsche. VW are ok, but in my opinion, i don't think they are all that great.

crayzayjay
02-03-2003, 06:22 PM
Of course they dont arouse the same kind of emotion as a RUF or Porsche, but theres no denying they are fantastically well built, great quality cars.

so very true jay and they are also more easily attained for some people that cant make RUF money id just like to take a corrado slc and put a turbo in it maybe 4motion that is still less than a used 930 turbo.

Precisely, VW have made some wonderful cars the public couldnt help but embrace... the original beetle after all is the best selling car of all time, so its fair to say one or two people liked it! The Golf GTi arguably defined the hot hatch and handled like a sportscar whilst offering practicality at the same time. The Mk2 GTi was wonderful and has rarely been equalled since its death, by any manufacturer. The Corrado VR6 is an example of perfect engineering and an absolutely wonderful car. With their current "soft" offerings its all too easy to think VW dont make desirable cars. Which is a big mistake to make. Hopefully Burnt Fishtrousers will get his act together though and go back to the glory days :D

Hey u guys kinda forgot that vw owns bently!

And the only w12 that will be available thus far in the states is the w12 4 motion phaeton at only 90k!

But yes the nanto is sweet especially when it broke it's own record in that 24 hour race in europe i forget the name of the race.

And about that thing with people saying japs are the best engines i mean they are ok for 4 bangers but the best motor made in a jap car was designed by a german! ROTARY! Besides no car company did a better job then datsun with the rotary in the 5-10 not even mazda.

Datsun didn't put rotary engines in the 510. The only Japanese car company to produce a rotary-powered car was Mazda.

I stand by my statement. As for your source...

"The engine and transmission came from a 1990 RX-7 Turbo II."
