Ok, I am an iddiot for doing this but when I first baught My SPEC I never bothered to break in the engine, like most other people do. it was my first car and all I wanted to do it race. know one ever told me that it would be better to break in the engine. Anyways I powershifted to 1 then 2 then 3 and at about 45-50 miles and hour I went back doewn to 2nd gear. it made me and my girlfriend jerk suddenly forward and all I heard was my engine just pop. I only had about maybe like 500miles on the car. now my ever since that incident my car makes this winding noise which is I think coming from the transmission. I also feel as though I lost HORSEPOWER because Everysingle civic si that I raced has beeten me, like a whole car length, which is weired because there is a lot of posts saying they beat this car. also other SPEC'S, they even give me a head start and they still catch up and pass me. What is the deal. Im going to take in my car in for service tomarrow AGAIN, for the same reason. :(

it sounds like you killed your tranny, the spec-v's trannys are weak to begin with, and then pulling a stunt like that wont help anything. Is this your first stick? at 50mph 2nd gear is either redlining or very close to it, its pointless to drop to 2nd if you are above 40mph. Second, you HAVE to rev up if your downshifting into a gear that will be close to redline before letting out the clutch. The jerk you felt was because the transmission is in 2nd gear at 50mph, meaning its spinning around 6000rpm, your engine was probably around 3-4k rpm. I'm assuming you just dropped the clutch or atleast let it out fast? This means that in a fraction of a second the clutch was forced to either speed up the engine (without giving it any gas) up to 6k rpm, or slow the car down to around 35. It probably felt like you slammed on the breaks and the engine coughed and jumped up to around 5500rpm. This shouldnt cause you to "lose" horsepower, at most it prematurely wore down your synchro's and took some miles off the clutch. I would go in to have it checked to see if they can find anything wrong with it

I just had it checked today. just came back infact. they told me that they didnt here any winding sound, so I went to drive the car myself with them twice. then they heard it. they said that yes there is a winding sound in there but dousnt mean that it is broken somewhere in the transmission. they also said that its not a big deal to where that there is a problem with the car. This is my first stick car. infact my dad had to drive it out of the lot 8months ago when I first got it. please answer me this one question. why can a SI civic beat me? is it really all about driving and who is faster at doing it ? I raced a civic SI with atleast Headers and he beat me. pretty sure he had intake. Im all stock. Am I just losing because I Just do not know how to drive or what. I feel like I shift pretty fast. I feel like My car is fast, WHY AM I NOT BEATING THESE SI'S LIKE EVERY OTHER SPEC V'S?????

well an si with intake and header and exhaust will be pretty close to the same speed. You might have had more people in your car than him/her which would slow you down....maybe you just shift slower than him, who knows. I recommend you go to a track or a dyno (a dyno will tell you if there is something wrong with the car and its not putting out the power it should be, a track will show you if you are just a slow driver). Depending on conditions, typical spec's dyno around 145hp 150tq to the wheels and run anywhere between a 15.0-15.6, depending on driver, temperature and humidity.

Well the other Si Well I seen what look like only the driver inside. I had just a passenger that weighs about 165-185 punds. the SI even got infront of me at the end. I started out faster thatn him but in just 3-5seconds he was already infront of me. also other spec v's sometimes give me a chance. I start faster but then they just pass me withen 5-8seconds later. little by little.

Also when I am powershifting when racing when I am tryng to go into 3rd it grinds into 3rd. anyone else have this same problem. 3rd sucks. I tryed to push the clutch all the way down and it still douse it. Is this bad for the transmission or something. it sounds like it is, but I just cant say no to a race, when a person revs there engin at me. at what RPM do you shift when racing BABYSKYLINE? I now switch at 6 instead of the 6200 that I used to.

the 3rd gear grind is a problem many people with 02 spec-v's have, yes it is bad for the car but the cause of it is unknown. Many think that it is defective 3rd gear synchro's but no one really knows. Most people just end up dealing with it, but if you find you cant you can take it into the dealership and if they find something wrong they can either fix it or some have been lucky enough to get 03 tranny's which, as I'm told, are much better than the 02

cant really tell them that it grinds into 3rd. most likely they will tell me "why are you reving so high". because remember it will only grind into high reving. (LIKE RACING). I also asked when i was in the dealership yesterday if I could maybe get the 03 tranny and they said that was not possible.:(

Actually I think that is a slight loss, the HP is supposed to be around 147 I believe.

And the Spec V shares the same tranny as the maxima, the on that makes 260 hp. I'm not sure what components may have changed but every professional article I've seen on the Spec V said the tranny should be quite tuff.

But anything will break if abused.

well, I looked at other people's dyno tests and they are all about the same. yesterday night I went to the track and I got 15.5 that was the best time I could get out of 2 tries. Im all stock. there was another spec v there also and the best he got was a 15.3. I have only been driving manual 8months.

last night I went out on westhimer down the beltway and two identical RSX'S Type S lighned up together and raced and ended up one of them crashing at the end. He decided to let people get his stuff out of his car so that I guess later he can report the car stolen. he was all mad and scared of what was going to happen. they paractically took his whole engine. his seats was the good part. Anyways I raced a black SI last night and I beat him. He later came back and ask if I was spraying and I told that I wasnt, all stock. still he didnt believe me so I opened the hood for him and he gave me the props so I felt good. The only reason I opened it was because I myself hate it when I ask a person what do you have under the hood and they come out with some Bull SH%#$ saying that they only have exhaust and intake.
