Vibration at higher speedsjer28usa 01-19-2003, 04:50 PM I am having some vibration in the steering wheel at highway speeds, it may be there at lower speeds but I don't notice it as much. I have a 98 sentra GXE (5 speed). Here is what I have done. Replaced 2 rims (factory direct through nissan) and tires, put on the front, still got the vibration (yes the tires were balanced). Re-balanced the tires, no luck. Swapped the front rims and tires with the rears, still did it. Got a 4 wheel alignment, no luck. Checked the tie-rods and I pulled on them and the don't seem loose. The cv joints move a little left to right (from passenger side to drivers side) very slightly but that might be normal? Also I have a 5 speed tranny, there are 2 bars that go to the tranny-one is probally for the gear selector and I don't know what the other one is for-anyway they have a little play in them, but would they cause the vibration in the steering wheel?? Sorry about the long post but this car rides like a p.o.s, and seeing as I bought it used I have no idea what the history is. Maybe someone used it for off-roading?! Thanks aumnsoccer 07-02-2003, 01:09 PM I went through that whole ordeal with my 94 sentra. I ended up getting new hub assemblies and lower ball joints. If you jack your car up and can wiggle the wheel sideways just a bit then it is probably your hubs. They are fairly cheap to fix if you do it yourself but the are a bitch. I just took mine to the garage and paid for the labor. Good Luck man. orangecamaro 07-02-2003, 11:07 PM My dad had a 87 Sentra and it started vibrating like a mo fo wicka wicka wicka dogg at 70 mph. The darn thing wouldnt go past 75mph and we took it to a bunch of mechanics and said the couldnt fix the vibrating. Cannonballs 07-02-2003, 11:08 PM maybe a spoiler could fix that. But I don't know a whole lot about cars sr20de4evr 07-03-2003, 12:23 AM a spoiler just reduces the suction that lifts the ass end of the car up at high speeds, it does nothing for vibration I have no idea what could be causing the problem, but I'm not even sure if he still has the problem, of if he still has the car for that matter...this was posted 6 months ago BigJ2Kool 07-03-2003, 10:10 AM yeah ive got an 87 Sentra and it vibrates like a mofo at high speeds. In fact it vibrates pretty bad at like 60-65 and it sounds like its puttin a great strain on the engine. can anything be done about this or is that just the way the car was made? josh jer28usa 07-05-2003, 04:58 PM Unfortunatly I still have the problem. I have not tried anything else due to a lack of money. I'm waiting for something to break off and then I'll find the problem! I'll keep you guys posted if I find anything. secretaznman69 07-05-2003, 10:57 PM G/f has a 92 sentra, it vibrated really bad, turns out it was a bad cv joint. The boots on the joint were deteriorating (sp?) and the boot closest to the tire was completely missing. After 75 bucks for the passenger side cv joint it fixed the problem... check your cv joints Yellwaznboy 07-08-2003, 12:31 AM I had a '95 Sentra GXE and I felt a lot of vibrations at the wheel and under my feet whenever I stop or slow down...it didn't happen every time, but it happened a lot. We checked everything, and nothing seemed to be wrong...that is until we checked the transmission. Something in it was wrong, and we had to replace a new one. Instead of doing that, we just traded it in for a '03 Sentra SE-R. I don't know if the problems are the same, but I'd recommend u get ur transmission checked. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
