Nissan Announces 2002 Sentra SE-R Pricing

GARDENA, Calif. (October 4, 2001) - Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today announced pricing on the 2002 Sentra SE-R sports sedan. The legendary SE-R makes its triumphant return to the Nissan Lineup with two models - SE-R and ultimate-performance SE-R Spec V. The all-new SE-R with manual transmission has a base Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $15,999.

The new SE-R with automatic transmission has a MSRP of $16,799 while the performance-based SE-R Spec V with 6-speed manual transmission and helical limited-slip differential starts at $16,999. All SE-R models will go on sale October 16, 2001 at more than 1,100 Nissan dealers nationwide.

Nissan has a rich history in the value-driven sports sedan segment, first created by the Datsun 510 in the late 1960s and rekindled with the legendary 1991 Sentra SE-R. The 2002 Sentra SE-R fulfills that role and ensures that Nissan's leadership in this segment will continue.

An all-new 2.5-liter 4-cylinder powers both versions of the SE-R. The engine produces 175 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque in the SE-R Spec V model and 165 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque in the SE-R, up 35/25 horsepower and 48/43 lb-ft of torque from the previous generation SE-R.

The SE-R was designed to give the flavor of the Nissan Skyline sports sedan. Building upon the style set forward on the fifth generation Sentra 4-door sedan, an aggressive front fascia with a mesh-pattern grille and large fog lights have been added. The side view is filled with body-color side sill extensions and large wheels and tires - 16-inch on SE-R and 17-inch on SE-R Spec V models. A rear spoiler and large chrome exhaust provide the final touch.

too bad it was just tested by SportCompactCar and they could only get 7.8sec for a 0-60 time. Thats barely enough to keep with an si. BTW this was a production model. look for the december issue for confirmation.

Yeah but cars go faster than 60mph. Did you notice the 0-100 or the track times? :eek: sweet!

i read somewhere else that the SE-R gets like 7.2 that's not that bad

yeh the quarter mile is 15.7 sec. and i do understand that cars can go faster than 60mph, i really think it has something to do with the 6-speeds gearing. if thats the case then the 5-speed se-r will probably be faster. But then again they could make the se-r slower on purpose so spec v would come out on top. o well still an awesome car however you look at it.

We went to two different Nissan Dealers last week to ask when it would show up. Neither had any idea... :rolleyes:

I'd go with the 5-speed with antilock and then have a custom stereo put in and then somewhere down the line turbo it since the 5-speed will most likely be stonger than the 6-speed as is with the s15's tranny.

If you don't plan on ever taking your car to a race track or auto-cross course there is no real reason to get a Spec-V. I think the regular SE-R will still be a pretty good machine.
