Im interested in finding out if there are any major issues with the 94 Deville's. Also, are they expensive to maintain and do they have any major faults. Any information that you could provide to help me with my decision to buy would be great. The car Im looking at is clean, nice paint job and has 110K. The owner seems to have taken very good care of it although they indicated that they have an error message pertaining to the shocks system. Any thoughts?

Ive owned just about nothing but Cadillacs my whole life.Never had any major issues with them. There great cars and ride like a dream.Any luxury car you buy will be expensive to maintain.Always put like super-premium gas and the best oil in the car.If you don't beat the car to death like I see a lot of luxury car owners do(act like there hot-rods) then it will run forever. My current Coupe Deville(1990)is now at 276K miles. All of the Caddys I have owned have hit over 350K miles. But I have also well maintained mine. And if you well maintain it,you wont have any minor or major faults. There great cars and you will be happy.Just one question, how much is the dealer asking for it?

I actually meant to indicate that it was a Cadillac El Dorada 1994 - they want $2500 for it. What do you think?

umm from the 94 deville i owned, it went through 3 tranny's before i gave up on the car and slod it. and it went out on the new owner also. and iro's have the worst tranny's? arent they turbo 350's? last thing i knew they were good trany's.

Actually the Irocs had the crap 700R4's.How did you drive you
Caddy, like an off-road vehicle?Because my Coupe Deville has about 375,000 miles.Ive never had a tranny problems.I grew up with only Caddys in the family, never had any problems, let alone a tranny problem.Sorry but trannys just don't go like that unless there crap like the 700R4.I also owned a '94 Deville Concours, never had a problem before trading it in.I had it for 7 years.

actually i was really nice to the caddy when i had it, if i wanted to go fast, i had my probe to beat on, i dunno why mine kept breaking, but even the tranny shop said that they see alot off caddy trany's so its not like my car was the only one. i will say other then the tranny i luved the car.

Hi Charlotte,

I have owner a 1994 Deville for two years now and nothing major has gone wrong. It's a lot more reliable than my 1990 Fleetwood. The best investment you can make with a Cadillac is to go on ebay and get the full dealer service manuals and learn how to read the codes your self so you can keep the mechanics honest.

To read the codes, turn the car on and press the off and warmer buttons together for 5 seconds, they're where you put on the heat/AC, and then write down any codes. To retun to normal press the auto button, or turn the car off and on.

If you let me know the trouble codes I can look it up and tell you what the problem is so the mechanics don't take you for a ride.
The dealer service manual has saved me many times.

Goof luck, Terry

I like the guy who went through three transmissions on a cadillac.
Well the first thing to learn about transmissions is to put the red tranny oil in them not engine oil.

If the fluid is ever low you will dry out the seals and create problems your self. On a level surface when the car is cold check it every week or two. If you keep the tranny oil level up you should not have any problems, even if you drive it very hard. also if it is not a clean red
drop the pan, change the filter and put new oil. Stay away from the suction method at quick oil change places and change the filter too.
It's low fuid levels or burnt oil that wreck tranmissions.

I purchased a 1994 Cadillac July of 1997. It had 23,000 miles on it and had just a few shopping cart dings. It had the 4.9 V-8 ( not Northstar ), O.D. transmission and most Cadillac interior luxury options including Delco AM/FM stereo radio with cassette and CD in the dash, heated 8-way seat and power recliner.
During 2002 and 2003 I traveled numerous times from Tampa to Baltimore and back, to visit my mother (900+ miles each way non-stop except for gas & food). I sold it September of 2003 with 156,500 miles to the first person who took time to test drive it. They returned with green $$ "to be sure someone didn't beat them to it". I sold it because I found a 1999 Cadillac that has all the options of the 1994 (and more) and the White Diamond is a better color for use in the heat of Florida. I sold it for my asking price which was the top Kelly Blue Book price.
I always used premium fuel ( usually Amoco Gold) getting 19 to 21 mpg locally and 25 to 27 mpg average overall on trips to Maryland. I maintained it on a 3000 +/- miles interval using Mobil I 10/30 oil and AC oil filters. I replaced the air & fuel filters as specified in the owner's manual. The alternator was replaced by the dealer at 65,000 miles under the extended warranty. I changed the serpentine belt and the transmission fluid & filter at approximately 60,000, 90,000, 120,000 and 150,000. I did not replace the brakes until 90,000 miles and the spark plugs at 109,000. Spark plugs on the rear bank of the 4.9 V-8 are very difficult to change and thankfuly the AC platinum plugs last 100,000+ miles. The only other problems were related to the window motor ( one replaced - driver's) and door locks ( two actuators - rear doors), and a few bulbs replaced in pairs. Hot weather in Florida tears up starting batteries so I found the best thing to do is buy from Wal-mart where the batteries have a long term (no prorated) warranty. Two replacements. Don't waste your $$ and time on dealer replacement batteries.
Prior to the 1994 I owned a 1982 El Dorado followed by a 1991 Sedan Deville. All were great cars purchased used.
Ask around to find a honest independant mechanic to do your repairs. Get the manuals and do as much as possible yourself. The less you trust to others the better your car will do.
Best of luck with your purchase.

I do not depend on the dash data display for mpg figures. I keep track of each fillup and divide the miles traveled by the quanity of gallons used to travel those miles. I always got 25 to 27 mpg while traveling interstate highways at approximately 70+ miles per hour.

You can go through transmissions in a hurry in you don't wait until you stop to change gears (i.e. back out of the driveway and whip it into drive while it is still rolling backwards). I had a buddy in high school that went through three TH350's this way until I pointed out what he was doing. He had thought his 69 Chevelle just had a lousy transmission.
