On my 1997 Chrysler LHS every time I ground out pin 1 of the data link connector all it does is blow the interior lamps / door locks fuse. Any ideas?? Yes I am sure it is pin 1 that I am grounding. Is there another pin that I should be connecting pin 1 to instead of just a generic ground maybe?? Thanks for your help.

Have you replaced the batteries in the remotes recently?

Try to resync them by pressing and holding LOCK & UNLOCK buttons together on the remote(s) for 7-10 seconds when standing next to the vehicle.

After taking my 02 Suburban to the dealer and verifying that my remotes worked fine but would not open/lock doors, I determined my remote receiver was bad. Several repair manuals that I referenced that are sold in auto parts stores did not show the location of the remote receiver. I found an independent mechanic that had some diagrams that showed it was located behind the dash, above the steering column. I purchased the receiver online, removed the dash panels and the reciever came out and was replaced relatively easily. It works perfect now.

My keyless entry fob got damp and isn't working on my 2000 Pontiac Sunfire. I'm hoping it will work again after drying out! In the meantime, does anyone know if I can unlock the car with the key and disalarm the car? will I need to reprogram the fob since I took out the battery or just reset it?

That depends how wet the remote got. Open the case and remove the green circuit board, and use an old toothbrush to brush both sides of the board to remove any moisture or corrosion. You might want to replace the battery as well.

If the remote was already programmed, you can try standing next to the vehicle and holding down LOCK & UNLOCK together on the remote for 7-10 seconds to resync the remote.

Oh I didn't realize I could take out the green board! thanks, it was pretty gross! maybe just too gummed up and the keys weren't working? I did open the car door with my key and no alarm went off! BUT the key wouldn't turn the ignition...seems to be immobilized!? I talked to a GM service guy and he said to leave the key in the on position for 1/2 hr and it should recognize the key as being a good key....didn't work :( so if cleaning the fob doesn't work then I don't know what next

We have a 1998 cadillac eldorado. the remote or fob will operate the gas lid but will not operate the car locks or the trunk. We have done the valet button thing we have checked the fob itself at auto zone.... checked every fuse in the car. We have tried everything in the manual. Like holding down the drivers door lock..... we just dont have a clue what to do., The buttons all work inside car. The strange thing is both functions went out at the same time on fob 1 and fob 2. please help and thanks for your post

Try opening the remotes and taking out the green circuit board inside. Use some water and an old toothbrush and clean off the circuit board contacts, and the inside of the button pad. Wipe it all dry and put it back together.

should i still try this since i took it to autozone and they hooked it to machine and said the fobs r working correctly? thanks for the reply

I would still recommend cleaning the contacts on the circuit board.

The "machine" Autozone uses to test the remotes is basically a 99 cent RF tester that they hold the remote directly on. If 1 button makes the tester beep, they say the test is done and the remote is good.

You already know the remote has at least 1 working button - so that leads me to believe the contacts are going to be gummed up when you pop the remote open.

Hi all, was just wondering if there was a way to tell if the vehicle I just posted originally had keyless entry. It is a 1991 Chevy Caprice classic. It is loaded. I called the dealer and they said the only way is to bring it to them and have them inspect the car to see if there are recievers under the hood and will cost me 90 a hour. What a rip off. they asked for the last 8 digets of the vin number which are MW200496. Any ideas?

91 Caprice programming:

One or two transmitters may be programmed. When 2 transmitters are to be programmed, they must be programmed during the same program sequence [see below procedure]

1. Open the luggage compartment lid. [Trunk]

2. Access the programming connector. [ In the diagram it appears to be on the left-hand side of the car in the trunk, is attached to the wiring that runs to the rear left lights, but is a small connector with only 2 terminals.

3. Jumper the 2 terminals together using a fused jumper. The door locks and trunk solenoid will cycle indicating the reciever is in program mode.

4. Press any button on the transmitter (only once). The Keyless Entry Module will cycle all the Door Lock Motors and Trunk solenoid once. Any transmitter code that was previously programmed is now erased.

5. If a second transmitter is to be programmed, press any button on the second transmitter once. The Keyless Entry Module will cycle all the Door Lock Motors and Trunk solenoid once.

6. Remove the fused jumper from the Keyless Entry Programming Connector.

Remove the BCM fuse, insert key, pull back to ACC then immediately to OFF then back to ACC, pressed both buttons on your clicker for 14 secs, immediately and hold the two buttons for 14 sec. Should be good from there, test it and if it's a go replace your BCM fuse. Some car models will require you to open then close a door for the cycle to work. Try it without the open/Close door option first, I didn't have to Open/Close with my chevy venture.

Do the 14 sec routine for the second remote immediatly after the first one If you have a second remote.

Yeah it was a PITA for me and I thought I'd never get it right. I was ready to pay someelse to go through the misery. Then one day I was bored and had plenty of time. I took my time and got it in 5 min, lol. I'm not sure if a BCM is also an IOD fuse for a diff car. I'm a Home Improvement guy who barely gets around with Auto repair etc.. Did yours come with instructions? I know one guy on this site said his worked when he went through the series by opening the Drivers side door, another guy said the passenger side door worked for him and another guy said the tail gate worked for him. I didn't open anything so maybe I was lucky. I don't know if you've read this one. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=53752

I have a 2005 Pontiac Montana SV6 that I purchased a remote for on Ebay. After reading programming procedures on this forum, I tried several of them and none worked. Then I had a professional lock smith that specializes in key fob programming try and he used a scan tool, but couldn't get the key fobs to program. He determined that they both are functional, but have the wrong FCC code to be compatible. Can you help me determine what the correct FCC code would be for my vehicle so I can maybe purchase the right key fob?
