Wow! There's something you don't see everyday. Never know till you go down there exactly the amount of damage done. It is simply overwhelming.

Incredible :(. Is that long strip of grass Battery park?

Also, what is the red stuff on those 4 buildings?

The red stuff on the buildings is what construction workers use as a safety net. To prevent stuff from falling down to the people down below.

Actually, Battery Park is further to the left in the pic. It's not visible from that viewpoint.

So I take it you've been to "ground zero," then? Man, it must be overwhelming, even though I'm sure a sizeable percentage of the rubble has been cleared by this time (yet I've heard estimates that the clean-up will extend for an entire year). I know my mom (who still lives in Manhattan) made more than one trip down, and said she simply can not go back again. I'll need to make that trip at some point. I actually used to hang out at the pier in front of the Winter Garden (visible directly "up" from the WTC's remains in the picture) regularly, and in fact spent two or three New Years Eves down there (including the 2000 New Years). Still hard to come to grips with it from this perspective.

I've been there. It's not the most pleasant sight. No lie, I was more afraid than anything. A lot of people don't or can't comprehend the damage down there. When you see it firsthand it's like, someone hit you over the head with a sledgehammer. That pile of rubble is very high. Almost like a 8 story building. It will take a few months just to bring it down to ground level. Now there is this stench(we all know what it is, so please no descriptions) that covers a broad area. I won't go into manhattan anymore or at least the lower part of it. I want to be sure if something goes down, I have a head start from where I am.

That is a very detailed pic. It is 14MB, so 56k beware.

Kris, I don't think anyone is going to be able to open that thing. I'm at work and my computer went crazy and locked up trying to open it. I had to kill the session. Is there anyway for you to shrink it a little.

Heres a smaller version but you cant see the detail of the larger one. Its still pretty devestating though.
