Spec V is everything you could want, but....03 Red S-ER Spec V 01-14-2003, 12:41 AM Well, I just started to lease a 03 Spec V (see login name)... and well, it's a phenomenal car! It's been everything that I could have hoped for... but, I do find that the power band is a little on the 'boggy' side.... as if the power isn't consistent. I don't know if any of you Spec V owners have the same issue during the initial breakin periods or not.... Another thing is that they could have put in a way better tranny. The cable shifting tranny is a little weak. Don't get me wrong with the complaints here, the car packs a lot of punch for the $$$. I have still yet to race it... waiting for it to be broken in. Other than that, just wondering what kinda fuel economy you guys are getting... I'm only getting high 300kms and low 400kms per tank.... (sorry for the Canadian measurements... don't know it in mpgs). Let me know what you guys all think! PhiFEdAWg 01-14-2003, 09:14 AM I agree. Initially, it had some power issues. And I might even get the SE tranny put in. It's a much better tranny. Anyway, are you doing the "rule" about driving under 70mph (don't know the kmph) and under 3500rpm? Well, what you can do is that after 1000 miles disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then reconnect it. After that, all the initial mappings are gone and then drive the car like you're racing for the next 100 miles. This will create new mappings for the mass air controller and allow the car to gain an additional 1-2hp. It sounds low but when you think about it, you're not buying anything to gain that. It's free. What you can also do is, get a CAI from AEM or Injen installed before you disconnect the battery. That way, it'll map the mass air with the new intake in place. But that's just how I dealt with my '02 VSpec. And I'm getting about 200-210 miles at a full tank. Sorry about the American "mph" and miles. :smoker2: sr20de4evr 01-14-2003, 10:33 PM i normally get about 300-350 miles a tank hinggu 01-14-2003, 10:53 PM i get about 400 kms per tank if i drive normally. but i tend to like to rip the car a lot!!!;) 03 Red S-ER Spec V 01-14-2003, 10:59 PM So hey.. ok.. sounds like there's a wide range of mileage. Now, what about octane levels? My manual says regular (87) and then the gas door says "premium recommended," which could be anything above 87. I'm hearing lots about the range of octane Spec V owners are putting in their car.... from regular (87) to supreme (94). I've been putting in 92.... but with the gas mileage I'm getting outta it... it's gonna get expensive.... DeathToRicers 01-15-2003, 08:35 AM My wife uses regular (87) normally and gets about 400 to 450 kms per tank. She tried super for a few tanks and found that her millage dropped quite a bit. So its normal for her all the way. PhiFEdAWg 01-15-2003, 09:57 AM I just did a calculation. I'm getting about 350km for every fill-up. And the octane I use is 93 from Chevron. :smoker2: hinggu 01-15-2003, 12:13 PM i use the premium grade.. but so far here in calgary, the highest octane i find is like 92 at most pumps. I think only 1 pump near where i live maybe 93 octane. TiTANSER69 01-16-2003, 03:09 PM doesnt the spec-v recommend premium gas. It says so in the manual. hinggu 01-16-2003, 07:17 PM I asked the dealer and of course they know f all. They said the car is designed for 87 octane. However, I have read around and it is good to use premium fuel if you want to get the most potential out of the engine. Even when Sport Compact Car tested the prototypes and found the dyno numbers to be small compared to Nissan's ratings, Nissan told SCC that they didn't use premium fuel and the car needs to have premium fuel to operate to full power! SentraFi 01-17-2003, 01:33 PM The 02's manual says Premium. The 03's say regular. I've been using 87, 89, 91 on my 2002. Seems better with 91. I'm noticing similiar mileage across all grades. So now I just get which ever is lower priced. muphasta 01-17-2003, 03:00 PM I only use premium, but here in SoCal, that is 91 octane. I check my milage after every fillup, and I have noticed that I get 26-29 mpg from Chevron, as compared to 22-25 from arco. sr20de4evr 01-18-2003, 02:36 PM I used to run it on 89 octane till I bumped the timing up to 19*. Now it runs on 93 vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
