Molding Paintingrhombus 10-02-2001, 03:58 PM Well thanks Goth for leading the way. I did not use Heculiner. I used the same flat paint that I did the hood with. I hope that it sticks :) Part 2 is done, now I just have to do the rocker panels and then the front and rear bumpers. Here are some pics: rhombus 10-02-2001, 03:59 PM Closer view: xoc 10-02-2001, 04:54 PM You're going to paint the ARB flat black ? Ick... rhombus 10-02-2001, 05:16 PM Not the ARB, but the grey molding behind. I like the ARB the way that it is. I just hate the grey and yellow. Mobycat 10-02-2001, 08:07 PM I used Bumper paint. Satin finish (not that the plastic is really going to be "satin". I've not gotten to the center piece of the rear bumper, the cowl under the windshield, nor the grille. But here's a question... when do you stop? The latch for the rear hatch is gray, too. But the handles on the doors are not (at least that I can tell). And then do you do the rack? Or is it close enough to black? I had wanted to do it for a while. I saw Gothamist's, and I personally don't care for the texture of the herculiner (though it is MUCH blacker than the black I used). rhombus 10-02-2001, 08:17 PM I'm going to do the grille, rear bumper and rocker panels. The rest is fine with me for now (well maybe that rear handle did not notice it before :) ) What cowl under the windshield? Mine is black. How is your paint holding up? I was going to do the Heculiner but could not find it in any stores so just went with the simple stuff. If this does not work out then I will look more and getting some Heculiner. Mobycat 10-02-2001, 08:37 PM The cowl - the plastic where the windshield wipers mount. Mine is gray. Paint is holding up...well...as well as 3 week old paint can hold up. ;) Did you take the moldings off when you painted? I did and I couldn't believe how much mud I had missed in the past. I took a screwdriver and just banged around under the lip - TONS came out. rhombus 10-02-2001, 08:46 PM Yes I took the molding off (much easier). I do a pretty good job with the power washer but there still was a bunch of mud (well more dirt) under them. Did you paint your rocker panels? If you did how far up did you paint? Mobycat 10-02-2001, 08:51 PM Nah, I didn't bother with the rockers. Not really going to show on a green truck. Though I *do* need to put some paint on some scratches down there. Xlax 10-02-2001, 11:41 PM Nice job ! did you do the hood yourself?. Philosopher 10-03-2001, 10:19 AM I think you need some more stickers on your truck. :) Looks good dude. rednec 10-03-2001, 01:37 PM Truck is looking good.... I just started painting my front offroad lights. While my truck was sitting at the dealer for 3 months they rusted pretty bad. I decided to paint them yellow to match my covers. Just put the last coat on them and then I'm going to spray a couple coats of clear laquar to seal them. The dealer also blew all 4 bulbs so I'm going to pick those up today too. The only thing I'm worried about is how hot the lights get and if the paint will hold up. They're not used very often so I should be OK. I've used them once for any length of time. I was the lead rig on a night run. rhombus 10-03-2001, 02:24 PM Rednec- There are some high heat paints that you could use (not sure if they have yellow). Philo- I'm a sticker junkie :D rednec 10-03-2001, 07:28 PM Stickers add Horse Power.... you must have atleast an xtra 20 ponies on there now :sun: rhombus 10-03-2001, 09:42 PM Well I did the rocker panels today: Just need to do the grille and rear bumper and I will be done. Well done painting. I still have a bunch of other mods that NEED to be done :) rhombus 10-03-2001, 09:44 PM Here is another pic: Mobycat 10-04-2001, 03:46 PM Well I found out something fun last night... So called "flexible bumper paint" does NOT like the pressure washer. Took the paint RIGHT off the fender lips. There must be something akin to herculiner without the texture. Anyone? rhombus 10-04-2001, 04:35 PM  I guess I will have to be really carefull with mine since it is just rust paint. I wonder if I need to put on some type of clear coat to protect the paint. I think that you can thin down the Herculiner. I went to a few of the sites when I was trying to find it and there is something that will make it thinner (it still will probally have some texture though). Mobycat 10-04-2001, 07:32 PM But I wonder if a simple strainer would work with herculiner? I just don't like those little granuals. rrdstarr 10-04-2001, 08:22 PM Maybe you guys could find where they spray them and ask them if they mix the stuff? It might be two separate components where they spray the truck beds commercially? rhombus 10-08-2001, 12:39 PM Moby- I was a the power wash today and my paint stayed on :) The paint I used was just play old rust paint. I used Flat but it comes in gloss. Before I painted I sanded the plastic a lot to give it something to bit. Just thought that you might want to try this since it is easier to use than Heculiner and does not have lumps. Matt Peckham 10-08-2001, 02:57 PM You guys should really look into www.por-15.com for the permanent paints They simply have the best products out there. Try Chassis coat black... not sure if it comes in non gloss. Matt rrdstarr 10-08-2001, 03:02 PM That is what I use when I restored cars. I also use it on my Sliders when I drag them. Stuff works great. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
