I have a 99 Civic Si, works wonders for me, I love that damn thing. Just wondering how it would perform vs a 94 Chevy Caprice Classic LS. My friend has that car and I wanna bust his ego up so bad. What should I do? Do I have a chance? I know timing is the key when racing... but I dont know...... should I try? Or should I keep my mouth shut.

Let's see, Inline 4 vs. V8. Hmmm, toughy. Keep your mouth shut. You might get him in the start, because you're lighter on your feet, but once that beast get's up to speed, he is going to smoke you. Just being honest and not trying to crush your hopes. I wouldn't even bother. But before I even go to say that, is your car modded......extensively? If yes, you might be able to. If not, don't bother.

Caprices are pretty slow, they run 16s if im not mistaken. You should be able to beat him if you are a good driver.

A friend of mine has a caprice and i've ridden in it... it is slow as heck and drives like a boat... you should be able to smoke him off the get go... and even if he starts speeding, you should be turning in the corner by that time!

That car wasn't meant for racing at all... except for the police officers when they start tricking it out....

Let us know how it goes!

I drive the sister car of the Chevy Caprice, the Pontiac Parisienne.
Mine's an '82, they stopped making it in '86.

Anyways, the point i'm trying to make here is NOBODY should
try those cars in . I've beating a Camaro, a riced up Acura and Talon,
every truck and minivan that's come across my path.

My Pontiac is turning 19 in February, hasn't been moded at all.
It's purely stock. Those cars kick ass and they don't stop.
You're needle can stop, but they won't. My speedometer
stops at 140MPH, and i've maxed it and definitely gone
faster.

The point is, don't bother with your Honda unless you can take it
to top-end speed heaven. You've got it off the start, but if it's
any kind of decent running ground, the Caprice will leave you behind.
The too-smooth suspension makes it corner like a God with some
sweet tail swings.

The heavy weight keeps it grounded ( i've cornered 90 degrees at
55MPH and not rolled my car, but came close ).

Don't try, that's all there is to it. For examples of how well my
Pontiac has done, read Parisienne (Catalina) VS Camaro SS.

It's on the 1st page of the forums i believe.

I am going to pipe in here, cause I own a lightly modded 93 Caprice Classic w/350ci.

I have personally smoked 2 Si's with my beast, and 1 lightly modded [never lost to one :D] and I dont race much, but off the line, no way that I could win, once I get moving tho, I catch up fast :) The caprice gets its advantage at higher speeds, seems to be geared for much higher speeds. A caprice with a rolling start has a better chance of taking an Si.

The Auto Gearbox in the caprice lets it down, but I would say that if both are stockish and the Si driver is good with a stick then the Si will take the win. As with all races tho, it depends alot on driver skill.

So conclusion: Good chance that the Civic Si will win in a short race. If you race all out, for a longer distance, then the caprice will roast you.

A side note here: If anyone with a Si or similar ride is passing through my neck of the woods, give me a call. My V8 will hand you your ass :D

I still say "There is no replacement for displacement"

Best way to find out who will win is to race him. Just make sure you do it as safely as possible [its never 100% safe] , and leave money out of it.

Keep us informed, id be interested to hear what happens if you try him.
