I'm looking forward to buy a pickup. I like the looks but can't live without the performance. So i am thinking about sport trucks like the Ford F150 SVT Lightning. Unfortunately this is a limited edition and i honestly can't afford it so i need some tips here:

First of all i want to say that where i live these sport trucks or pickups are VERY rare so i have almost no information and i can't test drive any of them.
Second i am looking for the small pickups with great performance and if possible lots of aftermarket stuff.
Third i don't want Mazda, Nissan or Isuzu. Toyota maybe.
But if possible i stick with american.

Now my question is quite simple which sport trucks can i compare?
I really have no idea. I have been looking at the official websites but everything is so confusing. I don't know if the Ford Ranger is smaller or bigger than the F150.

Which is most popular in the lowrider and custom scene?
GMC, Chevy, Ford, Dodge?
Which model?
Thx 4 any help.

Well, the Ranger, Chevy S10/Sonoma, and Dodge Dakota are all mid-size trucks. The Ram, C1500, and F150 are all Full sized trucks. The full sized trucks usually have V8's, and ONLY the Dakota can be found with a V8. So, if you absolutly have to have a V8, you probably are stuck with a full sized truck.

So, which brand? Which year? If you are into a NEW truck, I'd suggest a Chevy. If into a 1997 or newer, I'd suggest Ford. If OLDER than 1994, Dodge is OUT. As of 2001, the big 3 trucks all had similar miles/gallon for their V8s (5.2 Dodge, 4.6 Ford, and 4.8? Chevy). As for reliability, I'd have to say that older Chevys aren't up to it. I like the new Chevs, but I think they are going to suck mechanically once they age. The Ford 4.6 engine is BULLET PROOF. No issues there. Same with the Dodge 5.2.

As for looks - thats personal. I hate the look of a lowered Chev. The Ford looks great, and I've never seen a Dodge all lowered, but I don't think I'd like it. Overall for looks, the Ford looks good in street format. Especially with a short cab, short stepside box.

Think of performance mods too - there are TONNES of parts out there for the Mustang, which uses the 4.6 engine. Any mustang engine/powertrain part will work on the F150 engine. I don't think you can say the same for Chev or Dodge. Chev only has the Vette and Camaro for sports cars, and I don't believe any parts can change over. Same with Dodge - their only sports car is the Viper, and I'm positive nothing from the Viper will work on a Ram.

Lastly, think of your comfort - the Fords ride like sedans. When testing out trucks with my dad, both the Chev and the Dodge rode alot rougher than the Ford. If I was choosing a work truck for hauling stuff, I probably wouldn't go Ford, but Dodge. But since you only want the truck for the street scene - GO Ford :).

Ford sucks!

But the Ford F150 SVT Lightning would prolly be prefect for you. The S-10 wouldn't be have bad is you work on the little engine. If you got the dough get a GM HD. There not sporty but you WILL feel the power... VORTEC POWER...

Is the S-10 smaller than the F-150?
I really have no information over here.

Where exactly are the Canary islands again? I've heard of them (maybe a war story?), but can't remember where they are....

Ford Sucks? How do you figure? What makes it 'suck'?

A GM HD is the Heavy duty version of the GMC Sierra - GM's full sized truck. The HD has a HUGE Diesel afailable - the biggest deisel available. Purely overkill for street racing though. Works best for towing around construction machinery, or livestock trailers. Gorgeous, powerfull, but NOT a sport machine.

The S10 is GM's little truck (read my first paragraph in my first post to you). It has a full frame, but the biggest engine you can get is the anemic 4.3 V6. Hardly a motor that is going to propel the truck to set speed records. I'd advise staying away from the S10 base on their poor mechanicals.

Well the Canary Islands are 7 relatively small islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It is situated Northwest to Africa. The Canary Islands belong to Spain therefor spanish is the official language. :bandit: What i'm doing over here is a much too long story which you're probably not interested in, so i'll go on with the topic.
btw. follow this link for more info on the Canary Islands. www.ecanarias.com :sun:

Thx for the info on the trucks but i still am a bit confused.

Is the GMC Sonoma the same as Chevy S-10 ?

Wow! That's a long ways from anywhere, eh ;)? The pictures were beautiful though - hardly looks like Islands in the Atlantic ocean...

The Chevy S10 and GMC Sonoma are in fact the same trucks, but with different symbols on the front.

I should have pointed these sites out in my first reply - www.ford.com , www.gm.com , http://www.daimlerchrysler.com/index_e.htm?/products/products_e.htm and http://www.toyota.com/html/shop/vehicles/tundra/index.html

Ford sucks because it sucks. But still say the SVT Lightning is prolly the best choice for him. Pick up a copy of Sport Truck mag. tuningmaniacs. It'll help you out, I sure. And Merc's links are were your nose should be headed. Try the SVT website too.

Ford Sucks, because - they suck? Interesting Logic you have used... Granted, alot of their smaller machines has issues, but when the topic is on Full sized, framed, V8, RearWheelDrive machines, Hardly any machine that fits that criteria 'sucks'.

And what, do you think the SVT Lightning is? A Ford, and a Truck. All the Lightning is, is an F150 with a Supercharger on it.

cool down friends. :p
no need to discuss for things like this.
some people like a certain car and others don't, that's it. The world would be much more boring if there would be only one car to choose from. Since everybody has their own preferences it's just a matter of making the choice that suits ones needs or likes.

I personally don't like korean or japanese cars too much but i'm not saying everytime that they suck, i just don't like them. But i do make some exceptions. I think the Toyota Corolla and Supra are great cars. I also think that Mitsubishi makes great sportscars but again somebody will think about "rice" and say that these cars are nothing compared to a Corvette or a Mustang Saleen.

Thx for your suggestions, i will probably go for Ford because of the price, spare parts (very important where i live) and some other details i liked in the F-150.

Sorry if I offended you man. Ford has done a lot in motoring history. I just think they suck. I'm probably not using the word right but I'm inexprienced, it's not like I used the word all of my life you know. Anyway, the SVT Lightning a different truck than a Ford F150. It might just be "an F150 with a Supercharger on it" but that makes it different right? I never like the looks of the F150, they suck (still workin' on it :D ). But SVT does just enough to make them acceptable to me. Plus I was giving adice to tuningmaniacs. I think he should get the SVT Lightning. I didn't say that I like it so much I about to go out a buy it. BTW, your right about their trucks and SUVs being good. But as for cars.. well we don't get the Falcon, Puma, fast Focuses etc. here. So most of there fun cars aren't here. Therefore I think they suck. The Mustang also sucks but Mr. Saleen does just enough to make them acceptable in my eyes....yada yada... Get it? I would never get a Ford CAR unless it was modified in some sort of way. We must make peace. :)

Most popular in the customizing show is either:

Chevy Silverado
Chevy s-10
GMC Sonoma

These are the most popular at this point in time, due to the fact they have more products available then any other make and models.
