Hood paintingrhombus 10-01-2001, 08:02 PM I have wanted to do this for a long time but finally did it: rhombus 10-01-2001, 08:03 PM Here it is done rhombus 10-01-2001, 08:05 PM Still have to do all the grey plastic. rhombus 10-01-2001, 08:07 PM Originally posted by Goliath the X  Why did you have to repaint your hood??? How did it turn out? I just want my X to be different than the rest. It did feel weird to take sandpaper to the hood :) It is a flat matte paint and will settle a bit in time. XXXTERRA 10-01-2001, 08:13 PM So you finally went through with it. I like it. What type of paint did you use? and where are you? North? VaderX 10-01-2001, 08:19 PM It looks pretty good I have to admit and it will look cool when you paint all the plastic. I have been considering painting the plastic let me know what paint you use and whether it holds up. On a side note why did you paint it rather than use some sort of custom cut vynil. playhard_11 10-01-2001, 08:29 PM Looks awesome Jaimie. Well done. Goliath the X 10-01-2001, 08:30 PM  Wow... Looks Good gothamist 10-01-2001, 08:35 PM Damn, that looks really cool! I like. What kind of paint is that, it looks kind of like this low-texture truck bedliner stuff that my friend Mark painted his 4Runner with this past summer. rrdstarr 10-01-2001, 08:40 PM I think that will help with sunlight blinding you too! You know, driving into the sunset or sunrise! :D rhombus 10-01-2001, 09:40 PM Here are some more details: Prep: Taped off the area to be painted Took 600 grit sandpaper and took the shine off Paint: Used flat black metal spray paint (Tremclad Amour series I think) Used two cans doing many coats Cost: $22.00 The guy that helped me (well did most of the work :) ) has done this to his LR Disco and it has held up well for two years. VaderX- The paint will not crack and peel like a vinyl sheet will (especially black in the sun). Also you have more control painting since it is easier to tape and paint than try and apply a large sheet perfect. rhombus 10-01-2001, 09:49 PM One more pic Maddog 10-01-2001, 11:30 PM Damn man, that looks good. I like the look of the flat black. rhombus 10-02-2001, 04:00 PM A close up to show the line that we painted: superjens 10-03-2001, 01:53 AM Hey Rhombus, you really need one of those big Firebird flaming-chicken decals on your hood now, THAT would the perfect final touch. ;) rhombus 10-03-2001, 08:23 AM I was thinking of adding this :D coolerman 10-12-2001, 09:07 AM Looks great! Wonder how that would look on my red truck? I can see the wife now: "You're going to do what to the hood..." Philosopher 10-12-2001, 09:38 AM Originally posted by rhombus I was thinking of adding this :D Kick ass, the screaming chicken! wilburburns 10-12-2001, 09:45 AM But as a previous owner of a Hot Rod Firebird....I will have to say that doing that mod would be sacriligious (sp?). :smoka: And I'm sure T will correct my spelling mistakes... Are you going to protect it with a hard coat of some kind?. C superjens 11-04-2001, 09:47 PM I always liked flat black, back in my younger days I had an obsession with it. I painted my computer case, my Ford Escort (with perfectly good paint underneath). Didn't matter, eventually I drove that Escort to the scrapyard without brakes, flames licking out from under the hood. Ahh youth. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
