Port and polished head questionrelientokay 01-04-2003, 09:56 PM I have a 93 Honda civic Si with I/H/E. I was wondering how much performance i might get out of port and polishing the head of my engine. And if it would be hard to take off of the engine to get it ported and polished. Or if anyone could give me a rough estimate on how much it might cost to have done on a sohc vtec. thanks alot ben:sun: civicHBsi91 01-05-2003, 12:27 PM you wanna get your whole engine ported and polished? or did you mean how hard would it be to take off the head? well its not hard to take off the head its just time consuming kris 01-05-2003, 12:48 PM Price, performance, and gains all depend on what is done. You can pickup a gude head package, or similar company, that will result in some very impressive gains. But that runs roughly $1500. CivicSpoon 01-05-2003, 05:35 PM I've heard of people getting their heads port and polished around my area for $30-40, don't know if they did any preparation before hand or something first; but that's what I've been told. civicHBsi91 01-05-2003, 05:55 PM 30-40 dollars? did they guy have 3 teeth and look like he smoked crack? i wouldent trust no 30 dollar port n polish job Zippy 01-05-2003, 06:00 PM $30-40. Count me in. ;) Port and polishes arent too cheap. So I doubt it was 30-40. If you want an Idea on prices, call your local shop. CivicSpoon 01-05-2003, 06:42 PM $30-40 is what i was told, i'll check on the details and make sure I'm not completely incorrect but i'm pretty sure that's right, I'll ask my friend and write back tonight on whether i'm right or just confused but i'm pretty sure that's what i was told. Oz 01-05-2003, 08:23 PM For that price, it will be all by the guys eye - and any gains will be purely coincidental. You need a good flowbench with proper flow testing and match porting. $30-40 is a joke. civicHBsi91 01-06-2003, 12:41 AM $30-40 is a joke thank you! shyt i spent $400 for my head work and all the gaskets included, bad news is i recently learned there is a crack in my head somewhere  so im gonna just get a new engine as soon as i can Oz 01-06-2003, 02:26 AM Originally posted by civicHBsi91 thank you! shyt i spent $400 for my head work and all the gaskets included, bad news is i recently learned there is a crack in my head somewhere  so im gonna just get a new engine as soon as i can Crack+head=bad :lol2: Get a B series. A B18C5 ITR engine will fit NP with a mounting kit and bonnet bulge. Go for it, my friend!:grey: gunnmen01 01-06-2003, 05:39 PM Im interested in what one will cost, i think im gonna have the head P&P on the motor im building to replace mine when/if i blow it up this summer... gunnmen01 civicHBsi91 01-06-2003, 05:42 PM Get a B series. A B18C5 ITR engine will fit NP with a mounting kit and bonnet bulge. Go for it, my friend! im goin D series, and wanna pay for the c5 and the hydro tranny conversion? Oz 01-06-2003, 11:40 PM Originally posted by civicHBsi91 im goin D series, and wanna pay for the c5 and the hydro tranny conversion? Umm...yes. I'm going to sometime this year actually. But it's going into a 5th gen hatch. In $AUD a B18C5 is about $4k for the motor or $6k for the whole front cut. Plasmex 01-07-2003, 02:14 AM well my p&p ran me about 700-800 bux altho i got titanium valves and springs and an extreme port and polish job added about 15-20 hp ... 30 $ p&p.. thats just not a good idea haha civicHBsi91 01-07-2003, 03:00 PM Umm...yes i meant for me :finger: kris 01-07-2003, 07:50 PM Damn, $30 for a p&p. I got ripped off. I paid almost $1k for new p&p, valve job, cam, etc, basically the works. gunnmen01 01-07-2003, 08:59 PM Hey i got a dremel...ill do $30 p&p for anyone....no guarantee though... gunnmen01 CivicSpoon 01-14-2003, 06:59 PM Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah I was way off, I appoligise for the obviously ignorant comment. I was drunk when I was told that and in the same sentence my friend talked about milling a head (which is the one for $30-$40). From what i know now the price is $1000-$1,500 or more i'm sure depending on the job and the head. Oh and I would have cleared my stupid comment up sooner but I haven't been able to get on the board since then. laxracer21 01-15-2003, 12:37 AM I used to work at a perfomance shop here and we were affiliated with a machine shop who did p&p jobs for $200 (our price) and then we charged $275. That was bear bones head though...everything taken out. They did good work though...rode in a couple customers cars before and after...pretty impressive. Not a DPR or Bullfrog job....but nice for the price. Taking the head off your car is cake...just dont warp it while you do it and make sure you torque to specs puttiin it back on. need a special tool to take out valves though...to make it easier. but not difficult to just take the head off and leave in the internals. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
