So I was hoping that my bad luck in regards to Break ins and vandalism was over.......

This morning I discovered that my X had been "keyed" 20 inches across the back down to bare metal.

I would give a years pay to catch these motherfuckers in the act. I know where it happened and remember the car parked behind me in the lot where we parked while watching a movie...

Now the question remains, how do I repair?. I think the scratch is too deep to buff out as it is showing metal.....

Please help

Doesn't ICBC cover vandalism? I think I had a $100 deductible with them for my
Xterra. Seems like it was under the theft and vandalism coverage.

I had a bare metal scratch about 3 inches long on the hood (I don't know how it got there). I filled the scratch in with matching touch up paint, allowed it to dry and sanded it with really fine sand paper, and then compounded it and polished it with a buffer. It turned out perfect, you can't tell it was scratched. My Xterra is cloud white (the only color that doesn't have a clear coat). I'm not sure if having a clear coat would make it more difficult for a "do it yourself" repair. It might be worth a try before spending big money at the body shop.

Just got back from the insurance company and the body shop.....
The estimate is $768 Canadian dollars. The schratch is 27.5 inches and is down to metal. The guy at the body shop was sure it was done with a screw driver.........

My decudtible is $100.00 and time lost for running around.

Again, if I ever catch anyone like this I will certainly go to jail..........

man that sucks but drop the $100 and get it done professionally. It's a brand new truck.

And if it makes you feel better, remember it's only $62 in USD. ;)

Working on the wife. She's still all pissy about the offroading after I took off for GoX and Moab. I think it will happen though...;)

C'mon Schlud, forget the wife! Besides, I'm itching to see that truck of your's. Of course that's going to be a Very Bad Thing. I'll come home and empty my wallet at the nearest 4x4 store. So far I'm holding up OK, resisting temptation, although it's a daily battle. Again, today, I almost bought something - anything. My priorities should be to save enough downpayment to buy a house so I can escape from this tiny little condo I bought last year. Like I said, a daily battle: buy a house or mod up the truck?
