Polygon 12-17-2002, 01:18 AM If you like the imports I would say go for a Nissan. They are my favorite import, from Japan anyhow. There a few people from Canada that will be able to help you around here. Sorry I couldn't be more specific; it is just that there are people here that can help you pick an import a lot better than I can. As for the Honda/Ford statement, I just have one thing to say; LOL. supra-rx7 12-17-2002, 02:37 AM $20k is prolly less there than it is here, but i'd say: (93-98) TT supra, 93-95 Rx7, 3000gt vr4, 300zx TT, 240sx w/ an sr20det already swapped, or you could get the older turbo versions of those cars and have money left over for preformance mods? just make sure it has booooooooost DemonZX 12-17-2002, 08:31 AM Yeah deffinately one of those power cars (RX-7, Supra, 300ZXTT, or the 3000GT VR-4) Or you could save some money, and pick up a Talon TSI or Galant VR-4 throw all that saved money into it, and you are haulin' some serious arse! CLICK! 79_MonteCarlo 12-17-2002, 03:05 PM Have you seen the new Dodge SRT-4? I think that is around that price. If you're in Ontario just check out autotrader.ca. They got lots of used cars in there for good prices if you know how to shop. Cbass 12-17-2002, 03:35 PM I'd say do something different! Get a an older Subaru Impreza, and swap the engine out for the STI model. http://www.tikinet.com/impreza/head.jpg http://www.adrenalinmotorsport.com/Customer_cars/subaruRS/photos/rally_team.jpg http://www.jamesmannartfarm.com/subie/subimage/subie1.jpg -The Stig- 12-17-2002, 03:42 PM For less than 20k you can buy a used low milege Z28/Trans AM or a SS/WS6... And have money left over for performance upgrades too boot... Just thought i'd mention that, cause nobody ever seems to remember the Old F-Body... DemonZX 12-17-2002, 04:14 PM Yep the ol' F-body! Grab like a 96 or 97 Z28 drop in a LT1, supercharge it...and......can anyone guess what I'm going to say......? Cbass 12-17-2002, 04:18 PM Nah, he's one of those people who only wants an import  There are lots of good choices, just look around and see what appeals to you. Then ask about how you can make it faster, and how much it will cost. dLocke 12-17-2002, 04:31 PM Well there are so many cars that people think are 'good looking' with 'kick ass power' in it. Opinions will vary. Here's my list: Toyata MR2 Turbo, Nissan 240sx, Nissan 300ZX (twin turbo), Toyota Supra, Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX (awd), Subaru Impreza 2.5RS (awd), BMW M3, BMW 328is, and Mazda RX7. Go drive them all! dLocke 12-17-2002, 04:35 PM Originally posted by Cbass Nah, he's one of those people who only wants an import  Yes, but when you live in Canada doesn't everything count as an import? He really should have said Japanese if that's what he meant by import. BMW and Audi or considered imports, just European. Cbass 12-17-2002, 04:37 PM Yeah, as are Porsches! Yes, by that he will mean a Japanese import, because for some reason kids nowadays think Japanese cars are the best... Nice Bimmer BTW. Amish_kid 12-17-2002, 04:48 PM well for about 20k canadian i think you would probably have enough to get an old datsun 240z or 280z then drop in a supercharged 350 then you'd have yourself a super sleeper and quite possibly have some money left over if you spend wisely and some of the work yourself Evils_Import 12-17-2002, 05:57 PM well the eclipse is pretty nice... only down side is they dont have any dealerships around here.... so you rarley see one... rare as porsche... and since i live in alberta, its PRETTY DAM RARE! lol, hows the nissan on the performance side?? and the subaru Impreza?? thanx again Cbass 12-17-2002, 06:44 PM I'd say get a 944 Turbo, personally, but if you are set on a Japanese car... You can get a few engines for the 240SX, such as the SR20DET, or CA18DET. With minor upgrades you can make around 300hp on either of these engines, and if you want to really get into it, 600hp isn't unrealistic. For the Impreza, you can get an EJ20 with around 300hp already, and bolt it right in. You can get as much power out of that engine as with the Nissan. Costs are around $1500USD for the SR20DET, $900 for the CA18DET, and $5400 for the Subaru EJ20. It would cost an additional $300 USD to deliver it to western Canada. Since the company that sells these engines is in Montreal, you won't have to pay duty, fill out any customs forms or anything like that. www.jspecauto.com BTW, here are some pics of a "Strawberry", a 89-94 240SX hatchback with the front end from a 99+ Silvia on it. http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/d0fe8e30/bc/car+stuff/fr+parked.jpg http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/d0fe8e30/bc/car+stuff/far+rear.jpg http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/d0fe8e30/bc/car+stuff/front+spread.jpg http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/d0fe8e30/bc/car+stuff/new+side.jpg Now why can't more people make Japanese cars like that? No stupid spoiler, no stupid gimmicks, just a clean, beautiful car. Evils_Import 12-17-2002, 08:03 PM how hard is it to do a engine swap?? would they do it at a company (like goodyear, midas etc..) or would i have to do it myself... Cbass 12-19-2002, 03:48 PM Well, I wouldn't take it to Midas, but most repair shops can do it. I would take it to a specialty shop, there have got to be a few of them in Calgary. Here are those pics, seems I can't link them. http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/cos1580/lst?.dir=/car+stuff&.src=ph&.view= I'd recommend a 968 or a 944 Turbo, personally... here are a few pics of those. You'd get to remind your friends that you drive a Porsche, and they don't ;) 968 http://joshua.micronet.it/porsche/galleria/968.gif http://www.rapidcars.com/968.jpg http://www.rapidcars.com/blue968.jpg http://www.rapidcars.com/968highway.jpg 944 Turbo (951) http://www.cmyoung.com/images/944front.gif http://personal.inet.fi/surf/porschenet/pics/944/944l2.jpg http://personal.inet.fi/surf/porschenet/pics/944/2_944.jpg Evils_Import 12-20-2002, 10:00 AM hehe.... never thought of a porsche :D no objections there lol, i can really pick one up around here for like 20-23k ?? Cbass 12-20-2002, 11:58 AM A good condition 944 Turbo goes for around $10K in american money, so yeah, you could afford it with $20-$23K canadian. Further, that would give you enough money left over to get 350-400hp out of it, a complete suspension kit, and some little upgrades, like 968 wing and door handles... A 968 is a little more expensive, and not quite as fast, but very nice looking in my opinion. Figure $12K-$20K USD. The trick is to make sure you get one that has been well maintained. If you treat a Porsche nicely, it will be reliable and fast every day. If you abuse it, then you get to find out about expensive parts you didn't even know cars had ;) Evils_Import 12-21-2002, 08:11 PM ya true... dont want to figure out thwat those parts are :D what year would it be, around at least, that could fit into that price range, 10kusd Cbass 12-22-2002, 12:58 PM Well, they 968 was made between 92-95, and they are a little more expensive than the 944, because they are newer. The 944 turbo was made between 86-91, but the US stopped getting it in 89, so 89 is the last year to get the 944 Turbo. It's also the best year, because it had turbo upgrades, bigger brakes, a standard LSD, all the goodies you could hope for. They made 250hp(in 89) stock, and can be modified to 400hp quite easily. The 87 and 88s are good as well, but they didn't have a lot of the standard options, and made 227hp. The 86 is a peculiar car, and one you should probably avoid. It was a mix of the old 944 and the new 944, and is the least desirable 944 turbo. So take your time, find an 89, and test drive it. You will never want to drive anything else ;) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
