Photos: 1/24 Yamaha YZR500 Team Antena (no that is not a typo, it is a 1/24 kit)freakray 12-14-2002, 11:44 PM http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/160585antena1.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/541107antena2.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/429792antena3.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/284761antena5.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/584264antena4.JPG This is one of those 1/24 Heller/Airfix kits Chris(FlyontheWall) mentioned before, except I finished mine:) The kit is not as bad as you may expect, but it is obviously no Tamiya bike. The fairing is a clear part, which I really should have primed but didn’t, but being a clear part makes for some interesting masking since you have to mask off the windshield area. The decals are actually pretty good, with the exception of the fact that they are a bit thin and so on the transparent side a little. Overall a nice little ‘quick-build’ kit. The bike it was modeled against in the Team Antena3 Antin Yamaha YZR500 as ridden by Norick Abe in the 2001 GP season, and from what I could find reference wise, pretty accurate there too. The last photo is just so you can see the bike alongside my 1/24 Impreza WRC, to prove it is definitely a 1.24 kit;) Hope you like the looks of it, it was a quick and fun one to build. Ray maxhogblom 12-14-2002, 11:52 PM WOW, that looks sweeet!! I like the pic with the skooby in the backround!! Great job:cool: :sun: :smoker2: Jay! 12-15-2002, 01:20 AM Very nice! :) :) Where, may i ask, do you find them in the states? The only 1/24 scale bikes i can find are cheapo die cast, and they look poor. :( freakray 12-15-2002, 01:23 AM Thanks for the compliments guys. Jay, I have seen them available from www.phoenix-model.com but I got this one from my local hobby shop, the kit is only $6 so it is not over-priced really. I will find out if the guy can get more if you want. Ray pcmodeler 12-15-2002, 01:34 AM I've got all three in the series. Nice little bikes. The engines are a bit oversimplified. I got mine for about $4 each through Model Expo. Here's a review that's posted on my website: http://www.pcmodeler.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=184 ales 12-15-2002, 02:06 AM Nice job, Ray, I also have the bikes and I'm reasonably close to finishing them. A couple of suggestions, though: you should paint the inside of the fairing semi-gloss black (it's all cf there) and the color of the front brake disc in the "contact" area is much much darker. damn, I hoped I'd be the first to finish those. ;) Jay, we can discuss getting you the bikes via PMs or AIM if you have your home PC up and running. :p freakray 12-15-2002, 12:05 PM Alex, I would have painted the inside of the fairing black, but I didn't prime the outside(this was a quick n lazy build) so if the inside was painted black then the red on the outside would darken due to the fairing being molded clear. I am sure yours will look a lot better than mine does anyway, thanks for the kind words. Ray ales 12-15-2002, 12:11 PM Ray I didn't prime mine either, as I have a feeling that primer would appear from underneath the main colour in the area of the clear visor. And as I used Tamiya X5, it could use a bit of darkening :) freakray 12-15-2002, 12:20 PM Alex, X-5? That is green:) I used TS-49 which looks like a god match from photos of the bike I have seen. I was thinking of giving the fairing a coat of white inside and then a coat of black, that way the white should keep the red on the outside bright,. What do you think? Ray Midnight Racer 12-15-2002, 12:32 PM Great job on the bike.:) ales 12-15-2002, 01:59 PM Alex meant X-7. That was a type (my story and I'm sticking to it!) :p As for white - could actually work! Why not try it on some clear part first - like CD case or similar - and see where it leads you. But in my opinion it definitely could work. Guido 12-15-2002, 05:03 PM Thanks Ray for convincing me to get one of those. I didn't expect to see that they are not bad at all. I'll get the Honda as soon as I see one in the shop! You did a great job on that bike!! Guido flyonthewall 12-15-2002, 06:37 PM Originally posted by freakray This is one of those 1/24 Heller/Airfix kits Chris(FlyontheWall) mentioned before, except I finished mine:) Yeah, yeah i get it!:flipa: So u got one then, can't believe you made one so quick! Makes me want to hurry up and finish mine off! freakray 12-15-2002, 08:24 PM Chris, Yeah, consider it a challenge:D Only took me a week because I was able to spray so many of the parts, makes it pretty quick going.....when there are only 33 parts. Made a nice change from all the rally cars. Ray vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
