Oil type question?99integraboy 12-13-2002, 09:01 PM Alright, I love the best for my car. So what would be the best oil? I run it hard sometime, well alot. I have a 99 gsr w/28k, I usually run Castrol GTX 10-30, should I go with 5-30 all year around, or go with a totally diff oil altogether  93 Civic LX 01-14-2003, 01:32 PM Integra '95 owners manual says 5W - 30W is "preferred", unless your ambient temperature NEVER goes below 20 degree F. VTEC_hawk 01-15-2003, 09:55 AM I always use that 5w-30 quaker state formulated for high mileage engines... I've used that about 5 straight oil changes and compared my emission numbers with the numbers I just got and there was a considerable drop in every category. (Sorry,I'm sounding like a commercial now). Since I'm not spending $5 a qt. for synthetic oil - I save enough to get a K&N oil filter for each change (that could also be why it's running cleaner). anyway:bloated: whtteg 01-18-2003, 09:33 AM I use amsoil Full Synthetic oil and their filters as well. I noticed a better gas milage and the filters trap particles as small as 1/10 of a micron! Thats just my preference though. Check it out amsoil (http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=531645) CrazyFukr2k3 01-27-2003, 12:29 AM I use Halvoline 10W30 for my 91 GS could someone explain to me what it means if its 10W50 or like 5W30 and all what those numbers mean also why does synthetic oil cost more? 98gsr 01-27-2003, 02:21 AM 5W30 is for hot weathers and 10W30 is for cold weather. i use 10W30 all year around with Mobile 1 = $5.00 each and Mobile 1 filters = $12.00 each. :) CrazyFukr2k3 01-27-2003, 03:30 PM is halvoline a good brand or should i use chevron or something frostee 02-01-2003, 04:27 AM Originally posted by 98gsr 5W30 is for hot weathers and 10W30 is for cold weather. i use 10W30 all year around with Mobile 1 = $5.00 each and Mobile 1 filters = $12.00 each. :) i thought that was the other way around, i thought the oil's supposed to be thicker in the summer so it doesnt break down so fast? isnt that right? frostee 02-01-2003, 04:28 AM Originally posted by CrazyFukr2k3 is halvoline a good brand or should i use chevron or something I think you should at least use castrol....... Integra745 02-04-2003, 09:25 PM the question about:what does 10w-30 and 5w-30... the numbers stand for the weight of the oil. for instance,10w-30, this is saying that this oil will act as a 10 weight in the Winter and a 30 weight in the summer. they don't put an "S " after the 30, but it's understood... most people think that the "W" stands for weight, which the numbers do refer to the weight, but it actually stands for "Winter", they don't bother about putting a "S" after 30 though...just thought you should know this so you don't look like a dumb @ss...:bandit: whtteg 02-04-2003, 09:33 PM Just a note : 5w-30 is recomended for overhead cam motors b/c when the motor is cold and you start it the oil is more free flowing and can get to the valve train quicker. Mainly for the cam though. ;) Integra745 02-04-2003, 10:10 PM Where did u get your exhaust... what does it sound like and can you tella difference in power??:bandit: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
