Im having trouble trying to start it it will start to turn on then die ill try again and it spudders then dies after doin that for awhile it starts, then after driving for about 5 mins the check engine light comes on,it used to flood till i replaced the O2 sensor then it wasnt flooding but still had trouble starting, and theres black smoke from the exhaust i turned this screw by the throttle body cause i was told it would tune the idle alittle but when i did that my car seems to start flooding again, i know where the throttle adjusting screw is and i adjust that some times when my car seems to idle weird..i was told by a mechanic that my temp sensor is missing but i dont know where to get a new one,can anyone help me on any of these problems.and by the throttle body there is a sensor that is supposed to tell the throttle when to stop or something of the sort and its missing too any ideas on where i can get a new one?

Take it to advanceauto and they will scan the codes for free.

i tried that they said then cant scan anything unless its a 1996 or newer they said they dont have the connector for the car.

You need to find one that can scan obd1 cars. That CEL should tell you what your problem is.

Isn't there a way of getting the codes w/o the scanner? Or is that only for the OBD2's?

You use an analog voltmeter to get codes, or a datalogger.

i got my throttle sensor and temp sensor hooked up ...on another note it has trouble starting..it will turn overbut not start unless i turn it 3or more times then it will start i changed my plugs and plug wires but still wont start right away..WHAT SHOULD I DO.??

if it cranks over but wont start right away... then the first thing i would check is the fuel pressure, make sure u are getting enough fuel to the mtoor. MAYBE the fuel filter is clogged so it takes awhile to get the right amount of fuel to the motor.. that would be the first thing i would check.. if its not tht then let me know with alil more info. thnx

is there an oil pressure sensor/switch that helps make the car start my friends dad said if its bad it could cause a hard start....anyone????

The oil pressure switch will not effect the starting of the car.

well mines a stick and if i watch my oil pressure gauge each time i try to start it and it kicks the oil pressure goes up alittle then when it gets to a certain point on the gauge it starts everytime....

:1: definatly sounds like a fuel delivery problem, the oil reaching a certain point and starting every time is just a co-enc-a-dence (lol... i'm awesome at spelling!!!) check fuel pressure/filter/pump

o it gets enough gas cause it ends up flooding after i run it for a few mins.I changed my coolant sensor i was told by a mechanic he said it would cause flooding if it was bad,it didnt stop the flooding but helped with the black smoke/it still smokes though....(and has like a bad smell the burns your nose and eyes)
