Welcome to AF!
I think you'll find you're in the minority in this particular sub forum. Most of the attention seems to be with the '95 and up models. Guys like you and me who own or have owned prior generations of Montes seem to be few and far between. I always wanted to own an SS back when they were new in the '80s, but they were too expensive for me, (Oh to have today's money and go back in time:lol:) I wanted to take one of the '81 s I owned back then and turn it into an SS but back then there were practically no aftermarket companies that sold the kits or parts like there is now, and if there was they were equally expensive. I took the 406 cu.in. I had built out of my '78 Monte and put it in a '64 Bel Air instead.

I've also owned a '76 and a '78. I put that 406 that i built up into the '76 first and then later in the '78. Boy what a difference between the 2 cars with the '78 being a lot lighter and thus faster. I rarely see any Montes from 1970 to 1988 in my area any more due to all the salt used on our roads in the winter. If I do see any they are at car shows, or summer drivers, ( or the occasional tourist from out of the area. Something about the body design back then drew me to liking them.
