92 f150 - Alloy wheel painting

Hey, My 92 f150 has a set of terrible looking alloy rims on it. They are clear coated and it is all messed up. Does anyone no anygood ways to repaint them? i no that i need to use self etching primer, but can i just clean them up, sand them down a bit, and then just put the primer on there ass the only outer coat. how good would that be. or should i put paint or clear over it. I just want them to be black anyway and can get black primer?
