2000 Grand Am Pop When Turning Wheel

I have a 2000 grand am that is making a loud pop when i am in park and i turn the wheel either way. It will also pop whenever i am accelerating to take off and when I am applying the brakes to come to a complete stop. it isn't a continuous pop, but just one loud crack or pop. I just had the strut mount replaced because it was bad, but i still have the pop. I was told that the inner tie rods and lower ball bearings appear to be bad and need replaced. Do you think that getting these replaced will solve to popping noise? Do you think that it could be something different? I will appreciate any info you have to offer! Thanks

Welcome to AF.

Did they replace both strut plates or just one ?

If they said your tie rods & ball joints were bad then they could also cause the poping.
I wouldn't put it off to long, as it is a safty hazzard if something was to break.

XI, with my GA I think I might have the same issue.. tho its not so much of a Pop noise

Best way to describe it would be...

I'm in park, level ground, engine running

whenever I turn left/right there is a slight delay then a thud and then the wheels turn... would this be related?

I've always thought I just need an alignment with this issue, due to my car always wanting to veer right on it's own.. its a pretty decent right. Never really because I use my single right hand on my leg at about 5'o clock position to hold the wheel and I go straight

Make sure everything in the steering and suspension is tight, and that the rack is bolted down tight.

Your alignment could be off, but fix the steering first, if it still pulls, then get it aligned.

These newr models are known for the rack & pinion to also crap out, and they can clunk if the mounting bolts are loose/broken.

I've replaced the R & P in 99-00 grand am's & alero's because the bolt(s) broke causing the rack become loose/damaged.

Also the lower control arm bushings are another issue with these suspensions that go out and cause excess noise.

Your best bet is to get it on a lift and have it properly diagnosed.
