So you car works fine up till the time its ready to go into 3rd? You can use park, reverse, 1st, 2nd, but not 3rd? You would try changing the TCU but not sure if that would help the problem or not. Auto trannys are a PITA to troubleshoot, you might just have to end up taking it some where unless you have another TCU you could try.

Has the fluid and filter been changed recently, sometimes that can cause it to do weird things.

whene you start it up and start driving it will jam into 2 and stay in to 2 and yep i have changed the fluid and filter

So else works fine untill the tranny gets to second gear and then it sticks. Can you put it in N,P,R after it sticks or do you have to turn the car off before you can do anything else?

I would try changing the TCU. Not real sure if thats the problem but its your last option before dropping the tranny.

Pull the TCU, open it up, and look for burn marks. If there are some, you've fried something inside and need a new one. Are you sure it's second gear? It sounds like your car is in limp mode, but then it would have to be stuck in 3rd.

It should be right around the ECU under the hood on the right side.

I had a 94' Grand Am that did the exact same thing, it ended up being a sensor for the tranny...

But it was 3rd instead of 2nd.
