1993 New Yorker Heater Problem/Leak PLEASE HELP

HI, My parents have a 1993 new yorker that they bought from my grandparents... Its been running ok so far but it does not have any heat... now since its getting cold out... it no fun to drive the car...

it has electronic temp control... at first I thought the heater core was plugged, but the inlet and outlet heater hoses are both warm...

also, i noticed that there was water comming out from under the dash... at first we thought it was a leaking heater coil... but the water is not green or sweet smelling... I just changed the thermostat and we have been checking the coolant level often and it does not seem to be going down at all.

I read on the internet about a recall on the 1990 new yorker. it had something to do with defrost blower... water was leaking in under the windsheild cowl... and caused some shorts... I think the same thing may be happening here as the radio does not work as well. I think the water in the dash shorted that out as well as the electronics for the climate control.

Does anyone have experience with the same kind of trouble or have any advice for getting the problem fixed... was the 1993 new yorker recalled as well?

Thanks for the help

First, find the leak. Open your hood, start the engine, and turn on the heat. See if your compressor is engaged. If it is, your A/C system my be running because of an electronic problem and leaking water. If not, then I suggest you spend an hour or so removing the whole dash. Not that hard, really, about 5 screws on the top, one bolt on each side underneath, and 2 nuts under the steering column. Once the whole dash is moved forward, see if you can identify the leak by looking for traces of water. Perhaps get a garden hose and have someone drench the front windshield while you try to spot a leak inside with the dash moved foward. I assume that your blower motor does work. If it doesn't, then thats why you have no heat obviously. If you find a leak, determine where it's coming from outside, and simply seal it up with some good old black silicone.
