Hello, I have a '96 Blazer 4x4. It started leaking trany fluid real bad from the front seal. I pulled the trans to change the seal, pulled out the torq converter and found the hub broken of in the trans. pump. Has any one heard of this? Can I just put in a new torq conv. or have to have the trany rebuilt? I also have a trany out of a '96 caprice, (2WD). I never use the 4x4 in the blazer so I was thinking of putting the 2wd trany in the blazer to save the money of a rebuild. Is there any problem with that? other than drive shaft length. Any experence doing this? Thanks you guys have been alot of help!!

By the hub, i suppose you mean the hub on the torque convertor...? You can just replace the convertor, clean up the area behind the front seal and replace the seal and go from there. You have to take a good look and make sure nothing else is damaged, but in this case you kind of taking a gamble. it could work and go for a long time, or if metal particles came off the hub and got into the transmission, it could damage something else inside, forcing you to pull the tranny for a rebuild. This assuming too, the tranmission is in good shape and not in need of a rebuild to start with too.

I don't remember the type of torque convertor used, and the apply strategy between the caprice and the blazer. If they are different, the torque convertor clutch material may be different, as well as the valve body setup(differnent spring sizes etc, etc.)

They could very well be different, like I said in the earlier post. The valve body calibration is ,ost likely different and you could have compatibility problems. I personall wouldn't go that route. i would say get the blazer's tranny fixed, or swap out a good tranny out of a good blazer.
