We have a '98 town and country. My son locked himself out of the van and used the window and hanger routine to unlock the door. We now are unable to turn the key to start the car. We have tried locking and unlocking the passenger side with the key and then locking and unlocking the driver side (chrysler service recommendation) and that didn't work. According to web site, tried turning the steering wheel to the left ahd right and then attempted to turn the key with no luck. Is this just a coincidence or is there some other anti-theft thing we don't know about. Couldn't find anything in the owner's manual.

I think its a coincidence. Perhaps you have a bent key, or someone tried to force the ignition switch. You might try to push down on the brake while moving the shift lever when turning the key.

Hi hmjeck,
Would have to agree that it's just a coincidence, just to be sure, when you say that you tried turning the steering wheel both directions, did you apply a good force? If in fact it is the steering wheel pressure locking it out it will take a bit of turning force to move it, then once it does move hold it in that position while trying to turn the key, if you let it come back and then try the key it will lock it out again. Happens mainly if the wheels were turned one way or the other when the van was turned offf and keys pulled out, so if thats the case you will want to turn the wheel in the same direction as you were turning before pulling the key to release the pressure
Hopefully thats all it is,
Good luck,
Bob
