will not turn overalltimes 11-28-2007, 01:54 PM 2000 grand am se 2.4 with 165,000 miles. This car has and was running great. One time I went to start it and as I turned the key my hand slipped of the key as soon as it started to engage. Just barely bumped the starter (had a wrist injury at the time). Went to start it again and it would not turn over. I can turn the key on and bump start it at the starter with a screwdriver, but it will not turn over with the key. I replaced the ignition switch thinking that may have been the problem but it was not. I have also done the pass lock thing. Could it be the starter since I can start it by bumping the starter with a screwdriver? Thanks inafogg 11-28-2007, 02:08 PM hello no i think ur starter is ok.try starting in neutral as maybe its not fully in park all the way.good luck alltimes 11-28-2007, 02:27 PM hello no i think ur starter is ok.try starting in neutral as maybe its not fully in park all the way.good luck Thanks. I tried that just now but no luck. Oh well. Beats me. inafogg 11-28-2007, 05:57 PM hello alltimes sorry that did'nt work out.with all the things you've already done im sure you did the battery ck connection things? i checked recalls didnt see much in this area.maybe someone else has/had this type of problem.just start checking connections good luck BTW did check nss (neutral safety sw.)???right alltimes 11-28-2007, 09:43 PM Thanks. I really appriciate the suggestions. I dont think it is the nss. My understanding of the switch is,,,, if the switch is faulty it will not start in park but it will start in neutral. Actualy I misstated something in my original post. I did not replace the whole ignition switch. I replaced the ignition cyclinder only. Maybe I need to replace the whole switch. Anyways Thanks! I will keep plugging away on it. inafogg 11-29-2007, 02:22 PM im thinking when ur hand slipped u may have created an arch that shorted some thing out anyway good luck mike vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
