I have a 1997 F150 XLT 4.2L V6 that leaks oil from the tranny after I drive it. Im only 16 so I dont know really know much about trucks and dont have the money to go to a mechanic. The guy I bought it off of said that it was normal for it to leak but I really dont beleave that. If anyone knows anyways to fix that leak it would be very appreciated.

As far as I know that is not normal. If it is from the front of the tranny it could be your slave cylinder (if it manual) otherwise it is your front seal. If it is from the back then it is going to be your rear seal. Niether one is to bad to replace.

The guy you bought it from would make a good used car salesman, he`s got the BS part down pat.LOL No leak from anywhere is normal, but are you sure its coming from the transmission? It could be the rear main seal on the motor, or valve cover gaskets leaking and running down. Are you having to add trans fluid or motor oil, and if so, how much? If youre only having to add a little every now and then it may not be to serious. Take it to the car wash or get some cleaner like gunk and spray it down, clean it up and see if you can tell where its coming from. If its the trans pan or the rear trans seal it wont be too difficult, the front seal requires dropping the trans. If its the pan gasket, change the fluid and filter while you have it off unless its been done recently.
