96 Grand Am Leaking Water???

I have read through hundreds of posts looking for someone with a similar problem, and maybe i'm missing something, but i just can't find the answer.

My 96 Grand am has 155000 Miles on it and has had practically no problems. All of a sudden, it has started leaking coolant and it is dripping right around the firewall on the passenger side. I can't figure out where it is leaking from. It doesn't look like there is any sort of fluid mixing anywhere. I am scared to keep filling it up and driving it if there is somethign major wrong with it. When i noticed it, the car was very hot, yet no heat would blow out the vents. Could this possibly be the head gasket, or intake gasket? I am desperate to figure out this problem. Thanks!

Welcome to AF!

Sounds like the heater core is leaking and coolant is driping out the evaporator drain. Does it smell like coolant inside the car?

You'll have to check underneath to see what is leaking to be sure, I could list almost every part of the cooling system as a possible source.

Might be your heater core or the hoses going to it.

You didnt mention which engine malten02, so thats hard to say. I would agree with the hoses most likly being the culprit.

and welcome to AF.

sorry about that it is the 3.1 - I had someone come over tonight and they took a look at it, he seems to think it is the water pump because he felt water right around the bottom of the pump. So hopefully that is the problem and it is not too much work.

It is funny that you say heater core though because i have another car which smells EXTREMELY like coolant inside the car. It is not leaking any coolant though, is the heater core most likely that culprit??? Thank you guys so much!

If you smell coolant inside the car and it is not leaking, chances are it did at some point and they didnt clean up the coolant, which also can soak into the carpet/pading.

I've had to clean out the duct works before to clear up that smell. Gives me a terable headache!

Hopefully its just your water pump, much easier to work on.

Mine was leaking also, there was a crack in the firewall under the wiper motor and leaking water into the driver side floor
