92 sts oil leak

I have a 92 sts with the 4.9l engine and I recently put tires on it. the machanic told me there was a oil leak coming from the pully side of the engine. he believes it is the crankshaft seal. anyone have experiance with this? is it something I could do myself, or does the engine need to be out of the car?

Any info helps, Thanks

I have the same leak on my '93 4.9. It's doable based on the description in the manual but looks to be a PITA to access. Mine isn't bad enough yet to make it worthwhile.

do you think its worth trying some of that stop leak stuff? I've never used it but I hear its ok.

It didn't work for me.
YMMV

How severe is the leak? If it's not hitting the exhaust and burning, or leaving puddles, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It is a real PITA as mentioned to change the front seals. The engine cradle must be lowered slightly to get a puller on to get the crank pulley off.
Both my '93 and '94 4.9s have a slight leak. But they don't leave puddles and it doesn't hit the exhaust.

I think its about a quart a month right now, but I don't want it to get any worse either.
no its not leaving puddles or hitting the exhaust, but the underside of the car is gunked up from all the oil.

Is this this an urban legend?
