94 smoking!!!! ADVICE? Thanx!!!citoboy_7 11-26-2007, 01:26 PM Hey everybody, i just traded my Integra to a buddy of mine for his 94 Pathfinder. The truck has pretty high mileage, however, although isn't 2 knowledgeable, i know he tries his best to take care of his vehicles with maintenance etc. I gave the truck a tune up, and it fired right up (it's been sitting for 2+ years) the engine is strong! however, it's smoking like a train. We worked on it late last night, so it was 2 dark to thoroughly check (my droplamp broke on me lol) So my question; is there a modulator that may be allowing the engine vacuum to be sucking up trans fluid? I'm also going to check The brake booster, make sure it's not dumping brake fluid in there. Soon as i figure out this problem, i'm going 2 check the timing belt, make Anybody have any advice? I owned a Isuzu Rodeo, 5 spd, was fun, And this is my first Nissan Pathfinder (it's Auto). Much appreciated and have a great day! ^_^ -Aaron- denisb 11-26-2007, 08:34 PM I'm thinking since you mention two sources of oil as culprit the smoke was blue. If it's blue smoke and it's been sitting for two years it could be stuck rings. Try a compression test and see what you get. If compression is low there are some additives you can add that work pretty good, you might still have a reduced lifespan on the motor, but it might get you a little more time. Could also be a stuck EGR valve. I can't see how a vacume prob will suck tranny fluids or brake fluid in your motor though. citoboy_7 11-27-2007, 03:51 PM Thanx for responding, I have a compression testor, and will check that when i get a chance, however i don't think the rings are at fault. We pulled the stuff connected to the induction tube, and plugged it up the 2 holes so the Mass Air Flow sensor wouldn't cause the engine to die. And after it burnt off what was already in the intake, the smoke magically went away! What puzzles me is why would these tubes be sucking up oil from the valve covers... Is the egr somehow connected here? I did notice the pcv valve had oil in it, so i'll replace that 2day as well. Thanx again! btw for future refference, some cars, particularly gm have a vacuum controlled "modulator" connected to the trans. If the little diaphragm inside wears out and tears, it starts sucking up trans fluid through that modulator. Had this happen before and i wondered if Nissan had possibly used the same "ingenuity" lol Also seen couple times where the Brake booster diaphragm tore and sucked trans fluid into the engine through the vacuum checkvalve you see on the booster. Thanx again -Aaron-:iceslolan denisb 11-27-2007, 04:44 PM Sorry I gotta stop doing crack before I post :screwy:  I was meaning the PCV not EGR and I guess that would be a possibility for your brake and tranny to leak fluids into your engin via your vacum system...although I would probably consider it a long shot. Denis 88pathoffroad 12-22-2007, 08:19 PM There is no way for the engine to suck any trans fluids in. No vaccuum to it whatsoever, it's all electronic. If it sat for 2 years before running, I'd say it was simply oil in the cylinders leaking through the valve seals and it just took a little while to burn it all out. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
