99 svtHIDSVT 11-26-2007, 05:53 AM I have a 99 contour svt ie:2.5 dohc :grinno: , I was driving and started hearing a knock, the check engine light is/ was on. Befor the knock the car hesitated during alternate rpms. After the knocking {located on the front valve cover} I decided to take the intake manafold and valve covers off to check the cams, rockers, timing belt, excetera.n All looked well! the one thing that stood out though was the Intake Manifold Runner Control "IMRC" When i disconnected it I noticed something was rattling in it. Not soure if it is bad but seems to be the rattle, espc because its mounted on/next to the front valve cover. :banghead: Any Help???:banghead: Please:uhoh: HIDSVT 11-26-2007, 06:11 AM PS: I cant get any codes form the obd2. beyondloadedSE 11-26-2007, 02:51 PM Sure it wasnt the oil pressure light and not the check engine light? Knocking is generally a rod bearing. If you want to check to see if your IMRC is broken, just rev the engine from the throttle body. You should see the lower intake manifold linkage move at about 3750 RPMs to open the butterfly valves. HIDSVT 11-27-2007, 02:28 AM it was deff not the oil light. I worked at for for a while and I went back to use the obd2 reader, it stumped us all cause we couldnt get codes. I know how to check the imrc, its messed up, I just cant figure out if the rattle wa beause of the piece in it bein broken or if it was another problem. beyondloadedSE 11-27-2007, 09:06 AM it was deff not the oil light. You say it is and its messed up. Am i missing something? Whats the problem? It sounds like you diagnosed the problem in your original post. HIDSVT 11-29-2007, 11:35 PM It is not the IMRC, How ever the noise is coming from the low end or the timing chains. I am lost and confused, any help? Please. ASAP beyondloadedSE 11-30-2007, 12:08 AM It is not the IMRC, How ever the noise is coming from the low end or the timing chains. I am lost and confused, any help? Please. ASAP If its from the bottom end, its more than likely a rod bearing like I stated above. Whats the driveability like? Any loss of power? What are the symptoms other than its makeing a knocking noise? HIDSVT 11-30-2007, 01:14 AM Its driving fine other than lag in acceleration at random rpms, if its parked and bein reved it will have a harsh clink at high rpms and cut off. beyondloadedSE 11-30-2007, 05:17 PM Its really hard to say without actually having the car in front of me and pinpointing the knocking noise. I suppose it could be a timing component, but generally the valvetrain in this motor almost NEVER fails. Ive never heard of a timing chain breaking or anything of that nature. Only thing Ive seen thats failed was a timing chain guide which the person took off and then reinstalled during a 3.0L swap. HIDSVT 12-01-2007, 12:50 AM This sucks!
