There's a clicking, whirring, grinding sound in the rear of the car, was told it's the fuel pump freezing up in the gas tank destroying itself, Is that reasonable, Do they have electric/air load levelers on them ?, Thank you for opinions, it's my grandaughters car annd she was quoted $500.00 to fix it.

It is kind of hard to diagnose from what you describe....the fuel pump turns on for about 2 seconds when you first turn the key to on, then when you crank and/or oil pressure builds up to keep it running. The noise you refer to might best be diagnosed by removing and reinstalling the fuel pump relay under the hood with the engine running while someone listens to see if the noise starts and stops in unison while you do this. The fuel pump relay is in the eng. compt. on RH wheel well rear of the battery. There should be a schematic for it on it somewhere.
Otherwise, there is a port for checking fuel pump pressure at the injector rack that could also be used to hook a pressure gauge to check pump pressure output. It would help to have year and model and engine to get more specific. In general, this is an easy way to start.

I am pretty sure that the early 90s Troopers had no automatic load levelers , although someone could have installed air bags and/or a compressor on their own.
If it is the fuel pump, it can be expensive to have repaired by a shop, although the pump itself might run up to $110 +or-, high cost due to location and difficulty of dropping the tank, again, year make and model can have an effect on price. Good luck.

Thank you very much for your thoughtful reply, Sorry I didn't have the year & engine info to post with the question, but your response gives her somthing to look at.
