hey guys, I have a 98 monte carlo, 3.1 LS
i played my rookie year of baseball in texas, so i drove from boston. throughout the summer and since i've had the car i had about 24-28 mpg.
performed a tuneup before i left texas to return to MA, new plugs, fuel and air filters, oil, spark plug wires and cabin filter.
lately, for about a month i've had significant decrease in gas mileage...before i was getting about 340-360 miles per tank, now about 240. recently my check engine light came one with the trouble code for a evap purge.
what is that and would that be drawing my decrease in mileage?

Welcome to AF. Usually this will not affect mileage, assumes p0441-446? Colder weather, use of 10% ethanol at many stations can drop mileage, as well as other pcm/sensor issues. A full scan should be done to look at all the operating parameters.

thanks max i am having my mechanic look at it tomorrow. told him the trouble code and hopefully itll be all set. by the way, it was the wrong code i looked at in the book, i said code P0443 it was P0442 a small leak, hopefully he can fix the problem for under a couple hundred. thanks again!
