I have a really weird problem with my 94 olds 88. I went to get in my car the other day and i noticed my interior lights weren't on but I tried to start anyways. It cranks but wouldn't run. I tried a jump anyways and it didn't work. Next i tried to see if my interior lights work manually and they did, at this time I tried to start my car the door was open and it started and ran. Excited i turned off the interior lights and my car died. I turned them back on and restarted it and it worked again, so i shut the door and left my interior lights on and it died. Any help at all please i have no idea where to even start.

Basically my car only runs with my drivers door open and my interior lights on manually.

Welcome to AF, no aftermarket alarms or cut off switches?

Welcome to AF, no aftermarket alarms or cut off switches? Thanks for the welcome, and no there is no aftermarket alarms or cut off switches. The only differences that have been made is i recently got a radar detecter and that's been plugged in my cig. lighter(hot only with key on) and i moved my ipod charger to my other cig lighter(always hot). Also preceding all that my blinker has been working on and off, somedays it will flash and others it won't. I've temp fixed it for now by unplugging the light sensor at the door but not sure how long that will work for, and my blinkers haven't worked now more than they have, and relations at all.

Someone mentioned to me something about blowing a fuseable link and now it's back feeding through the turn signal relay, but i haven't even begun to look into that and don't know how plausible that is...

Update: This problem was temporarily fixed by unplugging the light sensor at the door like I said, but my car has never really been the same sense. Every now and then my check engine light will turn on but it will only last for one car trip and when i shut my car off and turn it back on it's gone. I was having hesitancy starting every now and again, and it doesn't seem like it's giving it's all when I step on it, kind've hesitant. Then one day it just died at a stoplight and wouldn't restart, so I pushed it out of the road got back in the car and tried to start it again and it worked. About a week later at the bank it died with the power window down, and i tried to start it again, but with no luck, and occasionally it would turn over but it would sputter hardcore and then just die with a mild backfire, and there was plenty of juice but the power window wouldn't go up again, so i towed it to my buddies place and charged it because i tried to restart it so many times, and he noticed i had some bad fuel regulator lines and we replaced those but still no difference, and we checked fuel pressure by pressing in on the release valve(or whatever it's called up by the fuel rail) and no fuel came out, we sprayed carburetor cleaner into the manifold and it started up, and ran, even when i shut it off it would restart no problem, and i left it there to grab a bite, and when it got home it was dark, but it wouldn't restart even with carb cleaner. Any ideas?

Take a look at the ground buss harness under the l/s ft carpet just inside the door sill, this is a problem area concerning ground to the windows and fuel pump as well.

Well, well I'm back again. Problem is occuring again, everything worked perfect after initial fix. Then like a week ago my turn signal intermittently started working again, and then today i had a little trouble starting when it finally turned over the check engine light was on again. And just like last time when I shut it off after making my trip I started it back up just fine and no check engine light. So, I rechecked my driver's side ground connection all is good and tight and no corrosion, and I checked my passenger side ground block and it's perfect any ideas, maybe ground from the source... or is it the turn signal flasher, not sure???:screwy:

I know this is an old post but I'm bumping it because it has all of my history on it. I haven't had problems for a long time, so I went with the it ain't broke don't fix it mentality. Well as of late my car doesn't turn over period every now and again. Every time is conveniently within the time period of rain.

I have a leak in my windshield trim(another headache to take care of, but that's not here or now but is related). So basically every time it rains. I get to hope that my car is going to start and if it does not turn over at all first turn I get to sit and wait until it decides it wants to turn over for me. The blinkers are still an issue sometimes they work sometimes they don't.

I have bought a flasher for them but in my laziness I haven't installed it(who needs blinkers anyway, not to mention I can't find where it goes for the life of me...) so I'm not sure if that is related as well, but anyone have any ideas or clues or hints as to what this giant of a problem is, I'm working on the leak to lower the chances but I'd like to eliminate it entirely. Thanks for your time again, and maybe I can finally fix this sob.....

What does turn over mean no starter action or it cranks then no start?

What does turn over mean no starter action or it cranks then no start? By not turning over I mean I put the key in the ingnition and turn it and absolutely nothing happens at all, except the indicator lights getting dim. When there's no rain there's no problem starting the car it's a fast starter.
