My 2000 blazer alternator bearings squeal whenever it is damp outside. It is really annoying. It usually does it for the first 10 min than slowly goes away. I was wondering if there was anyway to overhaul the alternator (replace inside bearings) rather than purchasing a new alternator!

thanks guys!

More that likley it is the belt or tensioner.
Bearing would make noise dry or wet.
Remove belt and spin alternator and see if you feel or hear any noise.
If no noise work on belt and tensioner.

I already took off the belt, spun the idle pulley which was smooth and quiet. I also spun the tensioner pulley which was smooth and quiet. Spun the alternator, squeak squeak squeak. Its just really annoying.

Just wondering why a belt would make noise if it were the belt? There are no cracks on the belt.

Belts get dry and hard and sometimes pick up rock clhips.
If you can spin alt by hand with belt off and hear noise it is time for another alternator.

A rebuild kit will cost about $40 and you have no warranty, a rebuilt alternator will cost about double that but you get a lifetime warranty and a lot less time spent on the job. Shop around and get the lowest price with a lifetime warranty.
