Traveling in a 1999 2.4 4 Cylinder Alerojimmyray1990 11-18-2007, 11:47 PM Okay i need alittle information and tips. I am gonna Travel coming up soon in my Olds Alero 99 2.4 4 Cylinder. The Total Distance is 284 Miles from Upstate SC to Birmingham Alabama and yes i have to go thru Atlanta. Is this Car Reliable i had to oil changed recently i have around 82,000 miles and the car is not due to another one till 85,129 miles. I used Havoline 10w/30 the only problem i see in the car now is the ABS light and the Trac Off light comes on should i be worried about this when Traveling? And what kind of stuff can i double make sure on before i take off. Overall i just wanna know is this car Reliable? Also how well does this Engine get on Gas and how many time will i might have to fill up. DOHC_tuner 11-19-2007, 12:10 AM take my 99' GX Alero with the fully built 2.4L LD9 motor, i need to break it in anywayz before I can really stomp on it and take out all these vtec ricers in my neiborhood. J/k, its a good engine, I love my LD9 half Quad 4. You might want to change the tranny filter and the tranny fluid, change air filter for better gas mileage, and do a coolant flush. all can be done at home except ofcoarse the coolant flush. Check your tires to make sure they can last and maybe loose weight on the car for gas mileage again or not, and also make sure you have that spare! jimmyray1990 11-19-2007, 12:14 AM i know the Air Filter has been changed when i got the Oil and stuff changed. I will get the Tranny stuff looked out and get the Coolant Flushed out. I am looking forward to taking my car into the City and out of the middle of no-were lol. But yeah i like the 2.4 4Cylinder i like the way it sounds  also i am not gonna force her or nothing just gonna let her go with the flow lol scoopy03 11-20-2007, 12:31 PM if full before u leave u should make it there no problem on a tank then one tank back its that simple :) DOHC_tuner 11-20-2007, 01:09 PM ^what king of engine swap are you doing on the Alero? jenniferms73 11-26-2007, 06:57 PM I drove my 2000 Alero from Michigan to Arizona (3000) and then from Arizona to Tennesse (2500 miles) And it only didnt start to to the Igintion Lock Clyinder three times. A tire blew up (not the cars fault) The turn signals stopped working due to the Hazard switch in the dash (something about the crapy connections) and it got okay gas mileage. Iflylow 11-26-2007, 07:14 PM Off topic, but for Jenniferms73: There is a recall out for the hazard switch. The dealer will replace it with a new redesigned one for free. Ask for a copy of Service Bulletin 04098A, January 2006. This will fix the turn signal problem. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
