Ive got a 94 s-10 blazer 4x2 w/ the 4.3 vortec.

My power steering pump has been making a whining noise for a couple of months now. I didnt think it a huge deal but my mechanic did bring it up today that he noticed it as well. Anyone know how large of an issue this is? Ive noticed its louder when its cold out, and quiets somewhat when it warms up.

Also, Ive traced another noise to my alternator. Right where it meets up with the serpentine belt there is a squeeking noise that is prominent enough to hear inside the cabin. Is it safe enough to to put wd-40 at that point? The alternator and the belt are only a year old each so I wouldnt think it would sound so rusty. Anyways it would actually make it a quieter ride to fix that so any insight would be much appreciated :)

First for the steering pump, make sure it has the proper amount of fluid in it, do not overfill it. If it is full, then try removing some fluid and adding some new fluid. This may help quiet the pump down. If this doesn't work, your only real solution is to replace it. Its not a bad job to replace, but you must have the proper tools, or its almost impossible to do it. As for the belt noise, check and make sure the belt is properly on the pullies. Using belt conditioners, or WD 40 like you say will not solve it, the noise will just come back again.
