Hi, New to the forum. just bought a 93 z34 lumina. the car is in decent shape except that the engine runs strong, idles good but when u rev it up to 3000(neutral or drive) it wont rev any higher, like there is a revlimiter, although there is obviously not. i just bought the car today for $150 canadian money. it has 200,000km on it. i test drove the car last week and it didnt have this problem. maybe the computer is no good? the check engine light comes on after about 10 or 15 minutes of driving. havent checked codes or anything yet. any help where to start. also what is a good gas strut to put on the car? and whats the exact location of the passenger side motor mount, the mount or something is broken and the motor moves about 2 or 3 inches to the right on acceleration, eating into the over flow for the coolant. thanx for any help, websites, tips and mods to wanna tell me about.

Wild, shot in the dark type guess would be the throttle position sensor.

Checking the code will verify. Does it shift weird when it happens, or idle at the wrong speed?

KYB adjustables, if you can afford them...

Been too long since I looked at one, don't remember how the motor is mounted. Sounds like you have a couple of broken mounts with that much movement...

Timing belt changes are critical on that motor, and a nightmare to do. Letting them go until they break or slip usually results in a junk engine.

I'm not sure about the Z engine but on my 90 3.1 the computer does limit RPM to about 3000 when in Park or Nuetral to protect engine. In drive the RPM will go to the drivetrain limit. If this is the case with yours then it's probably normal.

I have always put the standard KYB gas struts in my GM's, and I've always been totally happy with them. The front cartridges are only about $40/each, and the rears are about $90 each for a lumina (www.tirerack.com - it seems to be about the cheapest place to find these). Definately replace the rear mounts while you're at it as well.

thanx for the replies, tps or computer was what i was thinking as well. imm going to check codes on monday. hey does anyone know of ANY SPECIFIC z34 SITES I COULD GO TO? maybe some z34 videos? (besides the crappy youtube ones). and any CANADIANS KNOW A GOOD PARTS PLACE (i despise crappy tire they almost always 99% give the wrong part). one more thing....how fast is this car, my fiero with a 3.1 did 144mph...231kph. btw ill be taking photos of parts and work that will be done on this so others with similar problems can fix em too.
THANX...

I am not sure why you would really want to go as fast as it can with an older car, worn out struts etc. Also new laws here in Ontario, 50 and over and your ride and licence is gone for awhile...something to keep in mind.

Like Jeffco mentioned, the timing belt on these 3.4's is very important to keep in good shape. I don't remember if the '93 3.4 is an interference engine or not. Intake gasket is another issue. If it is going bad a good indication of it going bad is when you start the car and the revs go up and down until it warms up. Usually(not always) but usually a sign of a bad intake gasket. Also, the 4t60e needs to have constant and proper maintenance, or you'll be rebuilding it/replacing it.

These engines really don't have that many mods, but using good wires, GM platinum plugs, cold air intake, and keeping up on the maintenace, they are alright. Oh and use good oil and filters for it. the oil system on these engines is really complex, so keeping them clean is key to keeping the engine alive for awhile. i have a '95 Monte with the 3.4, its actually been an alright car. Have had a few issues, but all in all its been a dependable car.

Oh yeah, the power/performance from these engines comes after 3000 RPM. that said, I never promote excessive speed unless your at a track, in that case, faster is always better;)

OK so i verified that the 3000 rpm limit is supposed to be like that. i ordered 4 new kyb adjustables, car is in getting 2 motor mounts fixed. A cold air intake is ordered from Ram-air that will rewuire slight mods for it to work. i got the bosche platinum plugs and ac/deldo wires. royal purple fluids(which i have never used but are supposed to be the best, although they are pricey). blazes9395 thanx for the speeding info lol, just got my licence back a few months ago from a 204kph speeding ticket in northern ontario......so everyone get your radar detectors in ontario these days they are coming down HARD on speeders.
So another question, i have some 18" enkei rims 8.5 wide. i was going to put a 245/45 tire on them, will this fit under the car or will i have to shave the calipers, on my fiero i had to shave them to put 17x8.5 wheels on.....and anyone out there have a z34 hood for sale within 6 hours of sault ste marie, ontario? there is not a single z34 in the junk for 150 miles of here. Lastly(for now) in thinking of magnaflow mufflers(i HATE that tinny matallic sound from the stock) but if anyone knows a good muffler plz let me know.
thanx 4 the info
