Interesting Passlock problem, need help! (sorry, kind of long)

Well, I hope somebody finds this interesting, I sure don't.
I bought 1999 Blazer (2D, 4WD, LS model, AT) a few weeks ago, and two days after I got it I decided to try and fix the broken CD player (technician by trade, combined with the constant need to take things apart). Didn't get the CD player working, sadly, but I developed another far more serious problem.
The ignition locked in the ACC position. After talking it over with the mechanic next door to my office, we concluded that my key cylinder had failed, a not so unusual problem. He recomended I break or drill it out if I didn't want to remove the wheel, which I didn't.
Don't try drilling out a seized lock cylinder, it's way easier to pull the wheel. So, got the wheel pulled etc., old lock cylinder out, new one in, gears lined up correctly with the ignition switch (I'm glad they mostly idiot proofed it), things back together, I start the thing, and it dies after about a second of running. OK, that's fine, that's what it's supposed to do, right? PASSlock disables the injectors if it doesn't read the right password from the key cylinder, and the password isn't right, because it's a different cylinder, and it needs to go through the re-learn cycle.
That's all good, and here's where we get to my current problem. It's not going into relearn mode, the security light should blink or go soild for 10 minutes, then go off, right? There is blinking, for about 5 seconds. I can leave the thing in run all day, and that security light isn't going to come on, and it's not going to learn the new code.
So I'm stuck. It's doing what it should do, starting right up every time, then disabling the injectors (at least that's what I'm guessing, as the voltages on the ignition switch are right on), but it seems to be doing it without realizing there is a PASSlock alert and not going into relearn mode.
Any thoughts, and I will be most gratefull. As you can probablly guess, I've done a bit of research on this and wouldn't be posting here if this was an easy answer. The only info I've found on this exact problem is on the ANTi boards, and I don't have the qualifications to get on there.

Did you bump starter after key is first turned on?
Pass lock relean.
Key off then on and then bump starter then back to key on.
Security light should stay on 10 minutes and then go out.

Repeat key off then on and bump starter and leave key on for 10 minutes untill light goes out two more time.
After the 3 time key off and then it should start.
It is best to have a battery charger on it when you are relearning.
Good luck
And
If that does not relearn it better check body computer for codes.
Also it may help to clear codes if there is any and try relearn again.
And post back code no.

Getting a scanner to try and pull any codes tonight, but according to the mechanic I talked to (may or may not be correct, won't know 'till later), I won't find any codes, because the security light goes off after 5 seconds, indicating normal operation, no codes stored. Which I assume is why it doesn't re-learn.
