'90 2.5L now stutters (not right word) when accelerating and maintaining speed

it could be related to my recent ICM removal and replacement - everything went fine with that repair job, finally - got it together and started engine with no problem once I got the firing sequence right

initially all was well until I went to work this morning - it started hesitating and stuttering when I was accelerating and also when I maintain speed - I am not getting any codes from the system, yet - I travel about 20 miles each way for work

someone asked me if I gapped my plugs when I installed them - I was told they are already gapped so I just installed them - could this be the problem? - I wont have the time to check it out until sometime wednesday afternoon or even as late as thursday unfortunately

just an fyi to go along with this message - I replaced crank position sensor, ignition control module, both coil packs since its 4 cyl, all plug wires and all plugs - nothing else was replaced nor touched - is it possible to have a sensor be going bad and not throw a code in the meantime? - all this new sensor technology is new to me - I am accustomed to driving vehicles from the '70s but wanna get away from that now that mileage is a big concern for me nowadays with the cost of fuel going up even higher

If that is all you touched, and you are sure, i would go over connections again, maybe a plug wire came loose from coil and is arching to it and also misfiring under load?

ok, I rechecked those wires as suggested, I couldnt find a single one I could wiggle at all - I went ahead and removed and then reinstalled the wires to make sure - you never know

what I did notice this morning was odd and makes me think I may just have a bunch of water in my tank as it sat for a couple weeks with only about 1/8 tank in it while I was fixing it and it was cold and rainy almost all during that time

it was very cold this morning and it would sometimes run right and sometimes not - just randomness - when it would not run right, there seemed to be a big amount of steam coming out of tail pipe - when it would settle down and run right, nothing from tail pipe - this is what makes me suspect water in the gas

I will run it down to nearly empty now that I have it running and refill using a water remover as well when I fill it - I hope it straightens it out - if not, I will have to dig a little further to figure out what is now wrong since it hasnt given me any codes ever since I did the repair

thanks for all the input with everything I posted so far - it is all welcome and all very good ideas

THANKS

yea i wouldnt want to go to saying a blown head gasket since i supose i ran ok before, expecially on a 2.5 did you check behind intake to make sure no hoses got knocked off, MAP/EGR at the least are back there in the way.
Steam could be condensed moisture in exaust from warn cold damp weather too, or as you say, moisture in gas tank, gues you will know once you add fuel and dry gas.
Oh, i guess you had battery disconnected while working on it? if so it does need to do a idle relearn. if you dont know about idle relearn, you can find it here
