Hi, recently my gf bought a 97 plymouth breeze ,2.4 dohc ,auto. Other then the odometer cutting out from time to time its a pretty good runner. 4 days ago the check engine light came on. Now I know how to check it to get the code but because my odometer is out I cant see it. This is my problem, today I looked under the hood and noticed the box thats attached to the air clearner buy a rubber hose marked "MULTI-PORT INJECTION" on it has been cheaply repaired with some kind of putty and get this duct tape. This box is attached by a screw to the exhaust manifold so I can't even see how bad this crack might be. I'm almost postive this is why my check engine light is on. My question is what is inside this black box marked "MULTI-PORT INJECTION"? From the looks of it, it can be easily removed if I unattach the 2 rubber hoses connected to it and remove the screw holding it to the exhaust manifold. Can I patch this crack if I find one or should I just replace the whole box? If I take this box out to check the crack is there going to be any liquid in it? Nothing appears to be leaking from it but the tape had fallen right off and started melting on the exhaust manifold and shortly after starting to smell this the check engine light came on. I dont care about the check engine light just really need to know how easy I can remove this box, whats is the box purpose and is there liquid in it, and basically if I had to replace it how much would it cost? Thank you very much I'm no mechanic but I always seem to find the problems with every vechile I have just have no idea on the parts name or function for the most part.lol Again if I haven't been clear enough its the black box marked MULTI PORT INJECTION on it thats attached to the exhaust manifold and connected to the air clear by a rubber hose and to the engine with another rubber hose. Thank you again so much.
