:banghead: Truck just went dead while driving down the road. Was told it could be alternator or timing belt. It will start with a jump. Does anybody have any ideas on which direction I should go?

If it is a F150, you do not have a timing belt. If it will jump start and continue to run, the alternator is probably OK. I would look at the battery or cables to be sure they are clean and tight.

lol sorry whoever mentioned a timing belt... nope nope, These come with a timing chain, and you wouldn't be able to start it again either.

If it starts with a jump, runs 4 a bit and dies again, It may well be the alternator. If it is the alternator, you'll also be able to charge your battery, and it'll run fine till ur battery dies. Also, you'll be getting a battery light on the guage cluster. That is telling you it's running on the battery Only.

And as "way2old" mentioned, if it starts and continues to run fine with a jump, you're more likely looking at loose connections, cables battery etc

much luck! ^_^ let us know how it turns out
